I'll do the honours of swerving this debate with a long response.
IMO The poor ball retention is more to do with our play from the back. We must be very predictable to close down when Dunk's the only centre-back capable of finding a forward pass. The difference between us and the bigger clubs is how they all have quick(ish) centre-back partnerships where they can both carry and control possession. If we had another centre-back matched with similar footballing ability to Dunk, we'd have so much more control of the games. Against Liverpool, whenever our defenders were in possession, they were closed down and pressured very easily. Our defence just couldn't cope which forced them into aimlessly booting it wherever felt safe. It was a real eye opener to how much we need to improve the back line.
Duffy's passing is always back to Dunk. If not, it's a lump up-field. Schelotto's been decent, but in comparison to the rest of the league, he's no Bruno. Bong's been solid, but again, he's not the best when it come's to the keeping possession bit. Dunk really has been our 'One-man Band' at the back in a lot of our games. Realistically, out of all our defenders, only Dunk is capable of playing for a Europa cup contender team which should be our next ambition. Now it's time to replace our Championship promotion back-line with players on Dunk's level. I'm sure this will be CH's focus with recruitment this summer.
