Another factor is the land Amex House is built on is only leased from the council, whereas they own the John Street site. I was told that once demolished the plot (including the job centre offices) had been earmarked for a project designed to be a centrepiece for regeneration of the whole Edward Street area, including a plaza, shops, student accommodation and flats.

If you worked at Amex for a few years and left you may be intitled to a small amount of pension or Lumb sum I know several who checked and got nice surprise. Just Ring 0273-693555 and ask for pension department have your old staff number if you can Remember it . Good luck.
