Sounds fair to me.

The original intention was for the league / ladder to inform groupings should any team events crop up, though I do like the idea of adding age grading as I might not be propping the league up.

REMINDER: when setting a new Seasons best (SB) in calendar year 2017, take the last table and adjust positions based on SB then re-post. Don't just post new SB and expect somebody else to adjust the league

Running shoes made a world of difference for me during couch to 5k in May. No more strained calves. Keep up the good work, is week 5 where you get a choice of running time?
Thanks. The new shoes did make a difference, almost felt they were carrying me along at one point. Did day 1 of week 5 which was a 5min/6min/5min with 3minute intervals. 2.6 miles with warm up/down included. Will see what day 2 has in store Wednesday. Used strava for the first time and got a lot of encouragement, now people are watching I'll have to keep going.

Would something this simple suffice? The SB determines league position but the AG just adds context? Anyone who is bothered about his AG position can easily work out where they'd stand in a virtual AG table.
By the way as we all have birthdays at different times it's quite possible that in any given year we could register a time that is below our previous SB but actually improves our AG! But we can simply input this as and when it happens - and it won't change the table as now constituted as the previous superior SB stands until 01/01/18? And we then rebase the AG too for the next 'season'. Am desperately trying to make this as simple as I can and probably failing. It's then just up to us as individuals to input anything new (PB/SB/AG) as it happens. Worth a try for purpose of NSC bragging rights and to help our selector/player manager? Also could be good for head-to-head competition.

I want to be counted going over the line not by age performance. Except with you. You're AG is unattainable for me as I have been unable to break 76% at the highs of my running. Even 17:45 at 36 is not good enough. I'll have to make do with catching up in a race. Won't be this year, if any. You're on fire.

The only issue is it is 5k centric table. Fine for me but not for our distance runners. Nicely linked to Parkrun though.

Cheers. Yes you are right - this is very 5K centric. Of course everyone can keep posting their results and PBs from all distances - but I think it would be impossible to capture these all in one place. I hope to be with you on Saturday at Hove Park..........where you'll be on track for an SB/AG but I'll be a bit adrift from mine I think. Tom Ulliot who is mentioned elsewhere in this thread is a VM60-64 (but nearer 60 than 64!) has an AG north of 80%; and his missus, Cathy, might even be a bit better.

Off for third Achilles visit to Jesus this morning. He has reduced scar tissue and made it more springy/flexible but Clair Park is not a course for nursing an Achilles. Sore as **** since but working. See what the holy man has to say.....

Had a sweaty bike ride out to Steyning along the Coombes road yesterday. Those little hills will have to be my Phoenix training.

Thanks for the advice. I do all my running at Worthing seafront or in Shoreham where I live, both of which are obviously very flat. So I do think I need to mix it up to make a difference. With hills, should you run the same distance as normal but slower or a shorter distance at normal pace? And with speed work, how much faster should I be going? I'm not sure how much speed I would have to gain and how much distance I should sacrifice to make it beneficial. Is there a rough guideline?

Thanks for replying. Excuse my ignorance, but what are the benefits of running with a club? I don't really know how they work. I guess my fear is that I would either have to run with people I can't keep up with or be put in a group that runs slower than I do on my own, both of which are uncomfortable. But I know nothing so I'm sure that's not the case.

I'll take a look at the Facebook group now. That sounds ideal as the time range is exactly what I'm trying to break into now. Thanks for the recommendation.

Couple of pointers that might help re joining a club - not sure if you're local but there are loads of like-minded clubs in Sussex (have a look at the West Sussex Fun Run League page for a list of most of them). Joining a club will definitely improve your running. If my own club is anything to go by, there will be qualified coaches leading structured sessions - often interval-based. Standards are very wide - no-one would ever be left behind, and if you want to go on ahead there will simply be turn back points (so if you go faster, you just run a bit further). There are very likely to be multiple pacing groups on any session. You'll be able to run with others of a similar pace, and it'll spur you on to running faster. You can get advice from the club coaches. You can join your clubmates in races (the WSFRL is a great way to start)

I was terrified of joining a club when I first started running, I thought it would be full of racing snakes. It was nothing like that at all. Arguably the social side of my club is now as big as the actual running ! Finally, most allow a 'try it out' period - think ours is 3 sessions before you need to commit to join up.

Rheumologist says no but I'm certain I ran my body down last year and triggered an arthritis flare up by speed training mid week and going flat out at Parkrun for 8 consecutive weeks. Kept thinking nearly there........ Very important to drop back every 3-4 weeks. I 'll do easy running for 2 weeks after the Phoenix.

I'm wondering if it's possible to get a Strava Group set-up for NSC runners that might be able to do something like this automatically? I've joined Worthing Parkrun which does allow you to sort by various things though I can't see 5k PB ... anyone know ?

Thanks, I've joined the Strava group (probably should have searched for it first!).

No idea who anyone is as on Strava people use real names mostly - I'll have to cross reference people with their PBs!
