There's talk of the teams who have failed to qualify for Russia to play their own competition. It wont happen, FIFA would never allow it, but thoughts?
Italy, Wales, Scotland, N Ireland, USA, Chile & Holland so far. These games to be played in the UK. Compare these games with England, Croatia, Iceland, Poland, Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama, Iran, Japan and other teams well down the FIFA list. As a British person which would you prefer to watch.

EDIT ooops, wrong Ireland.

Seems a bit sour grape-ish to me. But saying that, it would be nice to see FIFA's reaction to a 'rebel' group taking them on, especially with the debacle of Qatar looming over them.

We should all tell them to do one imo

The World Cup. The rival competition would mean nothing. It would hold as much interest to me as a 'glamour' pre-season friendly between Barcelona and Real Madrid held somewhere in the world.

Exactly. It would be a pointless series of friendly Internationals, played out in front of a few thousand half-interested fans, sat looking up the world cup scores on their phones.

And all the players involved would hate it - those that didn't pick up tactical injuries, at least.

Imagine telling Alexis Sanchez "sorry you've missed out on the World Cup, at the peak of your career, but don't worry, there's no need to spend the summer resting in the sun with your family - we've lined up games against Scotland and Northen Ireland instead"

"In Middlesborough"
