I find Brewdog's posturing rather tiresome

Establishing rebel status as a marketing tool, how cynical.

And to this experienced drinker's taste buds their beers range from adequate to good, not outstanding.

edit: The Portman Group are irritating

I find Brewdog to be massively irritating with this sort of Faragist nonsense. Nice enough beer, but nothing that isn't being done in any number of new breweries up and down the country.

True, but they were/are at the vangard of the craft beer revolution. For this I will always be grateful to them.

I'm looking forwards to a nice pint of 'Copper Hop' made by those nice people at The Long Man brewery who gain publicity by winning awards for their beers, arranging community events e.g. painting the Long Man setting up tasting events in local pubs etc.etc.

Ah, Franziskaner Hefe-Weissbier. Yum.

Not a fan of German wheat beers I am afraid. I will be sampling the delights of Augustiner and some southern German craft brewers.

 PS It's not a competition between which brewer is best. Great brewers can coexist...although I'll maybe make an exception regarding Harveys

Craft beer revolution.

That's another thing that gets on my tits. A bunch of hipsters have now decided to move in on beer and make it trendy and edgy. Oh it's craft brewing, darling. And what does that mean, a bunch idiots in hats sitting round in over designed bars stroking their ironic beards drinking overpriced beer.
Somewhere between the awful camra pint of your finest ale landlord, beer bellied, wolf at night t-shirt brigade and the Hoxton Bonneteers there's a place for normal beer drinkers who just want a well made drink without all the attendant cockmungery and elitism.

Their Sussex Pride is brilliant. And their APA is also very good.

it seems a bit heavy handed to me, and i reckon there's a risk they highlight the industry self-regulation aspect of the Portman Group. irony is the drink in question is possibly the weakest they do, and the references are clearly about American west coast life style. should have maybe had a pop at the complaint a bit more.

I like their Long Blonde. But then I'm a bit of a lightweight. Quite literally.

As one of the 14,691 shareholders he claims to speak for, I say I'd rather he winds his neck in a bit. Lovely beer and a great GB business success story, but I do find his deliberately controversial comments tiresome.

I personally think some of their beer is well well above just decent. Personally their barrel-aged 7.7 lager is to this day the best lager I have had. Punk IPA is a fantastic beer as well. I'm really into 5am Saint as well. But I agree there is a lot of choice and competition out there...which is brilliant.

If you like drinking your nan's perfume, maybe!

I find Brewdogs beer's too much to be honest. They're a bunch of try hards who, in "pushing the boundaries" make pretty inedible crap, but it's bought by people who think it's the "in" thing to be drinking. I like my ale, and to an extent my craft beer's. But I can't help thinking Vorishilov has a point about hipsters moving in on a territory that really didn't need or want them, like a bunch of skinny jean wearing travellers. Craft beer can be good - anything Meantime make is good in my book, but not a lot beats a decent pint brewed by a good local brewery.

That aside, anyone who is going to take the pi55 out of Portman, who from experience are the most joyless bunch of suits that ever existed, have my support. Just don't expect me to drink your crap beer!!!

I really have nothing but disdain for the fizzy pop lager swilling outsiders that think I'm a craft ale snob.

It's enough to make me go for a glorious, golden, tingling taste sensation and hop explosion of Punk. :drink:

Bit harsh on Portman. They're never going to win prizes for their sense of humour ... their job is to send a signal to government and the Daily Mail that the drinks industry is serious about its social responsibilities. Of course some of its work is a bit "worthy" and arguably tokenistic but the alternative could be far worse if ministers decide the industry is incapable of policing itself.

The problem with what Brewdog is doing is that it would like the public to believe that the Portman Group is the enemy of fun, when in fact all they're trying to do is ward off draconian measures that Brewdog would like even less. Seems rather cynical and babyish to me.

Collectively, along with a few notable others, actively supporting and perpetuating the 'pub-chain',... closed shop tied system which is killing our local pub community and traditions. Brewdog, and the entire craft beer movement is a breath of fresh air, and long may it continue to flourish and prosper. Constructive feedback like this, to these self appointed, self promoting, self serving groups of hypocrites is not only welcome, it is essential to keep these issues in the public domain.

I think you're misunderstanding the Portman Group's remit. Yes, it's funded by the big drinks companies ... would hardly be fair to expect the smaller ones to cough up. But it's not a trade body as such. I'm not saying it isn't guilty of self-interest, but that self-interest extends to the entire drinks industry, including Brewdog.

The argument about closed-shop pub chains is really something separate, though I agree it's an issue.

My point is that this unelected, unaccountable group, controlled by those listed companies, who in turn control the vast majority of the UK's alcohol production supplies, are interested only in keeping the industry aligned with THEIR view of how the industry should be managed and marketed. In one breath castigating Brewdog for a minor labeling indiscretion, when at the same time producing millions of bottles of blue, pink and orange alcopops solely targeted at the youngsters, and sold in bumper bogof type deals......hypocrites one and all.

So serious Portman has had no effect? As I said, they should concentrate on the real issue and not waste time in areas where there is little to no problem.
