Bloody Worthing!
A season's best 23.55 (official) for me. 106th out of nearly 500 runners and the first time I've gone under 24 minutes since the second long injury layoff. All of which is glossing over the fact I got the wooden spoon :lolol:

Good to see knocky1 and big nuts - see you again at the 10k next week chaps. Thanks very much for the lift Simgull. Also a good chat with age grade champ supremo Garry Nelson's teacher and, I believe I briefly met Left Back at the end. Have to admit I was slightly struggling to speak at that point. An excellently flat course lulled me in to running a quick (for me) 7.25 first mile but by two and a half miles I was dying on my a*** in a mix of sun, sweat blindness and a head wind.

Yes - really good to meet the guys. Sorry that Worthing was so blowy. Old git I might be but I can still make lots of mistakes:

1. Lining up too far back (as pointed out by @knocky)
2. Over-compensating by overtaking too many too soon
3. Taking the first mile too quickly downwind (as pointed out by @knocky as he glided past me)
4. Dying after the turn into the wind
5. Running with a calf strain for the final 300 metres
6. Not noticing Simgull's charge for the line - I'm sure I could have found another yard if I'd realised

Anyway 21:54 and a 75.19% AG (well done to all esp @bignuts for a top 10 placing.)

21.07 for me. You win the head to head AG race 75.19% to 74.66%. Looks like I do need to win by a minute to win the AG. You didn't have to send your son out to sprint by on my failed run in.
We met Graham Gooden afterwards and as a 16 minute something runner he said the wind made him die on his feet today, so it wasn't just us. At 2.9 miles I was doing 6.15 mile pace and dropped to 7:00 mile pace to the finish. Emil Zatopek would not be impressed! 6:43, 6:49, 6:50 mile splits will do considering the wind.
Good to meet everyone and managed to press gang @leftback into The Weakest Relay evening.
Cycling home with half a ton of shopping from Waitrose into that headwind was not a good idea............will be driving over for the 10K next Sunday.

Good fun today at Worthing. Slightly disappointed with 21:54 but it was hot and windy. Thanks to our host Garry Nelson’s teacher for having the courtesy to let me overtake him with one yard to go- and they say chivalry is dead.

Missed seeing NSCers at Prom todee. Nearly didn't bother but I spose the weather was good.

What a chap GG is. Phenomenal runner while looking like an amiable real ale enthusiast

Have you seen his new hair style? A fusion of 1980's shaved up from the ears with some kind of grey Mohican going on up top. He claimed it was designed for speed.

Almost as funny as the bloke who covered up his halo with an orange flame covered bandana with a top knot.....:)

Well done to the Worthing crew – and everyone else out on Saturday. I fended off the persuasions from knocky1 to try and get me to come along after 40 miles on the bike – including tackling Ditchling Beacon – when I bumped into him on Shoreham Beach. Went out yesterday morning and it was muggy as – nine miles, including two laps of Hove Park – I was getting withdrawal symptoms!

Not sure I'm here for Weakest Link, but even if I was, my speed has dropped a lot, due to the volume and type of training, so 2.5k sprints are not going to be the prettiest!

You were looking good for someone who'd cycled up Dyke Road and gone over Ditchling Beacon the short and sharp way. After one week trying to mix in cross training for a baby Tri. I'm knackered. Thighs struggling to find their muscle memory. The kick in swimming gave me DOMS and 36 miles on the bike took all energy out of my legs for running this weekend and no training energy for intervals last Tuesday.
So flat shorter bike rides this week and easy Parkrun. I need to get ready for a fairly good effort at the Worthing 10k on Sunday.

Will do a Weakest Link Relay call to arms next week.
