Floyd,Genesis,Tull, Moodies and the Strawbs.
This though is my fav,starts off in a depressive mood and gets more so,the effect of drugs is damming. 25.50 and the 2 songs combined,Out in the cold and Round and round....out,f**kingstanding.

While similar in places (and an obvious influence on them) I think you'd find Opeth rather different to King Crimson to be fair.

I will give Opeth a go, I'm possibly a bit strange as I love King Crimson but think Robert Fripp comes over as a bit of a pompous sh*t...

Opeth's prog influence is obviously rooted in the likes of Floyd, Crimson, Yes etc, but the metal influence is much more contemporary with occasional Death Metal style vocals and double kick drums etc.

Really talented band and Mikael Akerfeldt is a fabulous vocalist.

I thought self indulgence was one of the pre requisites of prog rock...along with pompous and bombastic. I'm with you on King Crimson, "In the Court of.....". Pink Floyd i'm very selective about. Can't stand "Money" and is probably the track that's put me off that album because i find just that song far too grating and I cant help but associate the whole album with just that one song. Totally irrational I know and i realise there's some classic tracks on the album but the spectre of Money just ruins it for me.

Me too. Since buying the Early Years I have practically listened to no other music, and given that Atom Heart Mother is my favourite Floyd I suppose that is my favourite Prog album. I never listened to much else that you would call Prog (Yes, Genesis, etc..) but I do like a bit of Opeth.

While all personal favourites of yours, it is nice to see that you have gone for the debut Wishbone Ash album rather than the default Argus which almost everyone else goes for. For me I prefer New England

I find Argus a tad over-hyped and at times a little twee... not sure why?!?

The debut, although poorly produced, is incredible from start to utterly mesmeric finish.
