I meant minor doubts in Cook's own mind.
It can't be easy having given up the captaincy on the back of a succession of opening partners, all of whom have failed. This must have played on his mind, and the fact that he hasn't yet scored a test ton this summer will not have helped. Cook is also the wrong side of 30 and he wouldn't be human if some doubts in his own ability haven't crept in.
If he then goes tonless against the Windies in this series then an already daunting task for Cook in Australia would be that much harder. England needs him to get to three figures, not just for this match but for the Ashes preparation.

When you think of the standard of the bowlers that barely got a test in that great Windies side who would now walk into this side: Wayne Daniel, Patrick Patterson, Winston Benjamin, Winston Davis, Kenny Benjamin etc.

Patterson was very quick - unbelievable he didn't play more Tests, apparently Graham Gooch said he was the fastest of the lot in fact he thought he was 'frightening'.

I remember sitting in front of the TV all day as a young lad watching Peter May and Colin Cowdrey get that 411 but didnt think it was at Edgbaston but I wouldnt argue.
