I thought he played rubbish last night. A few nice runs, but missed a couple of sitters.

Mcmanaman set the standard.

Gary Lineker, although not a wholly qualified success in Barcelona, did win the Spanish title while he was there and won the European Cup Winners' Cup as well as reaching a European Cup final. Paul Ince and David Platt both performed strongly in Italy in the 1990s too, albeit in sides that were not in a position to challenge for the Scudetto.

His finishing had been poor, but I'd say he had a reasonable game. He was at least affecting the match, whereas Cristiano Ronaldo was completely ineffectual right up until he scored the penalty in extra time, by which time the game was over as a contest. He got what he deserved with the goal he scored for taking the gamble positionally on the ball breaking loose. That's what you want from centre forwards, never mind wide players.
