Eventful evening at Withdean. My Zola Budd Mary Decker moment. Managed to move into Dave the Vegan's Lane and catch his foot. Within a millionth of a second the big man was down on the track with all his weight on his shoulder. The whole track stopped running and rushed to his assistance. He was very noble saying these things happen but poor bloke had to go home early. Good session otherwise, especially after a 10K yesterday. 4 days rest or 9-10" pmile pace running for me now.

Bloody Worthing!
Thank you! Yes, it's the same start for both the marathon and half-marathon. As you can see from the map, the half (in blue) goes all the way out to the west and then comes back to finish not far from the start. The full (in red) goes all the way out to the west, then all the way out to the east, before finishing at the same place. There's the point where they have two giant inflatable arches with half runners turning right to the finish and full runners carrying on straight. I always think this must be pretty horrible for those people doing the full marathon, seeing the half people heading to the finish.

I did one like this once - Taunton. The marathon was simply two laps. At the end of the first lap when the half marathon runners disappeared I looked up the road in front of me and down the road behind me, saw nobody and felt very lonely.

Just had a chat with a fellow runner who face-palmed sometime in June and had very bad concussion - and still has probs with her memory.

That's bad. Luckily he didn't hit his head. He's having troubles with his hip and core, which is probably why he tripped over a lightweight.

Getting to the business end of my training plan now. Have an Arena80 'race' at Peacehaven Parkrun on Saturday. Will give it 95-98% as saving for a flat course the week after with the additional age increase. No idea what to expect. Maybe my training has just improved my 800m and 1500m times?? It's been great fun anyway.

I am thinking about doing Peacehaven on saturday on my way out to Eastbourne. I need to cheer on a few friends before heading back to the Amex. But if it's going to be dominated by the Arena 80c quick folk, that's no fun for anyone!

Starting to look at next years events so I've signed up for the two local half marathons already in Brighton & Worthing. I'll almost certainly run the Bedgebury Forest 10 mile again on 3rd Feb so that's the first quarter of the year taken care of.

Looking at Spring, I'd love to have a crack at the Brighton Marathon 10k but £32.50 for a 10k race seems a complete piss take. I'm still tempted as the start line is 1.7 miles from my front door.

Me too. I’m not competing for the rest of this year, I’m using it as a fitness test. But I’m keen to get signed up to a few races in January-March to get me ready for Brighton and London marathons.

Worthing HM is a definite. I love that race. Brighton HM is a no. I hate that race. What else is available in this area in early 2019?

I’m not a fan of the Brighton Half also but it’s flat and on my door step so I’ll run it.

Have you got a specific event lined up for the AG attempt, maybe Worthing? We've had near perfect conditions lately - what you don't want is for the Autumn gales to kick off on the day. (Actually I still think you'll do it regardless of conditions.) Just get it over with: I can't cope with the tension!

(On a different sort of personal landmark event, I'm having my retirement do this week, after 40 years of doing what I do - whatever that was.)

Welcome to retirement. :O Been there since 1997 not that I did much before that.

I may pop along to Worthing depending on weather.

I go away for a week and you guys let this get to page THREE? :nono:

One of those weird weeks at a family activity place in Devon where I found a 2.5 mile hill repeat course in our own hotel, an absolutely stunning 7 mile trail run from the sister hotel. six a side, badminton, three lots of continuous cricket,a gym and two table tennis tournaments. Unfortunately due to the omnipresence of my great foes Roast Dinner, Fried Breakfast and Cheap Bar I reckon I've come home heavier. No parkrun tomorrow as I'll be sorting out my calves and trying to book liposuction.

Good week Guinness Boy . Peacehaven for me tomorrow. Any tips, anyone, on the course? I can’t fully remember it from my arthritic jolly on it’s maiden run. How much slower than Hove Park or Prom?

Enjoy Beachy Head Marathoners and wrap up warm.
