Uwe Hünemeier signs for Albion on a three-year deal

I imagine the only real awareness of Paderborn in the UK will be because there's a large British Army base there. Think they're in the process of shutting it down and bringing the troops back to British bases, but it remains for now at least.

Then there's a good chance there's an albion fan based there who can give us the low down

Depends what is meant by 'replacement for Hughes'. Hughes himself wasn't signed just to sit on the bench. He was singed to be 'one of the three senior centre backs'. He just didn't play because of the form of the other two. He could quite conceivably have played 30 games.

UH replaces AH as 'one of the three'.

I am hoping he is one of the 3 and we retain dunk who is a tried and tested success at this club and one of our key players last season. It is hard to find players like Dunk who are not only exceptional defenders but good on the ball which perfectly suits our style of play.

This guy could be amazing he could end up being terrible but at the moment I am struggling to be pleased with the idea of losing what I consider to be our brightest prospect to be replaced by someone who 'must be good because they have played in the bundeliga'.

Seems like a big gamble if indeed he is the dunk replacement especially given we would still need to add another centre back

Perhaps I would have more confidence if we didn't have such a poor record of replacing quality with quality

Just so I'm clear then - would you actually have been happier if we'd NOT signed a new centreback today ?

A season of :

Stockdale

Rosenior
Dunk
Uwe
Bong

Excites me, very solid back five for the championship IMO.

There is a simple formula here:

If the club is still serious about challenging for play offs in the near future then Dunk stays. If the club is happy with survival in the champ at best then Dunk goes. Simples. You cannot go into the season with only two recognised central defenders. We were short last year with 3!
