In error, the BBC have instead revealed the long term decay in 1970's Britain. A result of huge National Debt from 2 WW's, plus systemic economic decline for a whole host of reasons (awful Labour & Tory governments, out of touch industrialists and senior management, and some militant trade unions protecting old inflexible working practices).

Strange really. I see that now. But all I remember is a fun time growing up when families meant something and we didn't live our lives with permanent distraction.

He has his finger on the pulse of modern Britain. Companies to disclose social class and re nationalistion of critical companies such as Royal Mail.

Makes me feel a little uncomfortable. I'd be interested to know what his reasoning is. I think he's right on his other media points though.

Allowed should be replaced with afford.

Channel 4 news by the way (which I love) is produced by ITN.

It does seem to have a politically political stand which the BBC can't afford to have.

state control of course, cant have full bore socialism with a free press. state funded "community" press run by "elected" persons driving the agenda of central government, whats not to like?

True, but the unions definitely had some say in how the country was run - or not. The Winter Of Discontent Of 1978/79 was the death knell of the Labour government, and ultimately, the power of the unions. Once Thatcher and the Conservatives got into power it was only a matter of time before the unions had their goolies chopped off, and they were. The Miners Strike of 1984/85 proved to be the final battle of union might and they lost.

Thanks. I did a double take when I saw her photo as at first glance it looked like the same location with the bricked up lower windows and the children watching from the raised level on the right of the window and the multiple piled up matresses. When I dug my photo out to check I realised it was a different place. I didn't realise that jumping out of the windows of derelict buildings onto piled up matresses was such a popular passtime for kids in the early 80s.

Haven't really followed this but if I get the jist I agree with him, which isn't often.

The media is achingly middle class and I don't mean white heterosexual male middle class.

From my experience the media as an industry does quite well in all forms of representation but the class issue is the elephant in the room.

I agree, but the timing is all wrong. There is a lot more wrong with the country at the moment than the breakdown of classes at the BBC.
