Is he any good?

He's supposed to have bags of potential, and we've been after him for quite a while. The rumour was that PSG wanted to hold on to him, but he couldn't realistically see a way of breaking into their first team. I think (hope) we've convinced him that he can develop while he's here and that he'll be given an opportunity to play Premier League football in the longer-term.

Are we "doing a Huddersfield" this year, then?

NSC is 'doing the usual', it's always good to get the pretend singings in early, that makes reality and Barber-out's latest excuse all the more glorious.

We're taking advantage of the scouting and communication work we've done previously to continue our interest in particular players that suit our team ethos and playing style, plus of course we were safe a couple of weeks before the season ended, so we knew we were recruiting for the Premier League.

If we manage to secure 2 first team signings by the end of May does this debunk the myth of the last few windows that 'nothing gets done early as players on holiday / waiting for best offers / etc ?'

Mind you, we did know that we'd be playing in the PL in mid-April last season, yet most of our incomings arrived late in the window. I do get your point that we've been after certain players for a while, and we're now in a stronger position as a consolidating PL club.

Our most important signing, last year, was done on 19th May.

5 key signings were before we kicked a premier league ball.
arguably only 2 late signings were Krul and Scheletto.
Of course the 1 key signing last summer didn't happen whether because we left it too late, didn't think players would fail medicals, or relied on other clubs incoming that didn't materialise. Take your pick.

Gross - May 19th
Ryan - June 16th
Suttner - July 13th
Izzy Brown (loan) - July 25th
Propper - Aug 7th
Izquierdo - Aug 20th
Krul/Scheletto - Aug 31st

Club have often made early signings and not sure if anyone says "nothing' gets done early. Obviously not all deals are the same. Some like Gross, Suttner, Izzy Brown can get done early for all manner of reasons. Some like Krul, Scheletto though, get done on the final or late in the day.
