That match against Tottenham Hotspur is the stuff of folklore to the point I did a bit of research and came to the conclusion that there is no evidence of collusion.

Southampton needed a win to secure the title and, with 15 minutes or so to go (and rumours of no interest from either team) would have been foolish not to attempt to try and score given that they had +6 over the Albion.

If there was a reason why they were reluctant it was a good one. Like a few games before the Tottenham fans were causing mayhem and the atmosphere was toxic. A goal for Southampton may have sent it over the edge.
