I knew it was his 7th birthday but as it's at the beginning of July and that pre season I expected it would be the new shirt not the old one. My mistake.
Yes, your mistake. I don't blame you for asking if he could wait to have the new one, but I don't blame them for saying no either.

It's a free shirt, I get that and am extremely impressed with the gesture. It's very good.
Good. So why whinge then?
Calling me an ungratefull tw@t on a forum shows you up for what kind of person you are.
These are things you said:
"I asked if there was any flexibility and was fiemly told no...
As you can imagine my son was upset...
should I ask the club for some leeway?"

You've been given a free shirt, you asked if there was flexibility, they said no. That's the end of it. Whining on here and considering asking them again for leeway is being ungrateful. That's why I've called you ungrateful. Don't put your blame on me.

Tell the club and your eldest that you've just had another look at his birth certificate and it turns out you've got the date wrong, he was born a month later than you thought.

My daughter is also 7 on the 8th July, she got her birthday card and voucher in the post this morning (been in gullys gang / young seagulls since birth).

Skim read it and saw the sticker about 17/18 kit, so thought she would get the new shirt before I saw this thread!

Personally I think it's a great gesture and it's still a blue and white shirt which has the 'swoosh' and current shirt sponsor so it's no biggy.

There has to be a cut off point where you go from eligibility for the old shirt and then suddenly the new. That's life I'm afraid, I know my daughter will be delighted.

One for home games one for away and one when he wants to play in goal? Duh!

He wear's them almost every day. Given up on trying to get him to wear anything else. Can't say I try very hard but his mum does.

Look he's 7 and so it's completely understandable why he hasn't yet but surely you should have grown a pair by now. Stop pandering. Then he's in with a shout of surviving adulthood!

Another issue with the 7 year old getting a free shirt thing.

My eldest got a birthday card from the club and his voucher for a free shirt. Lovely gesture from the club.
His birthday is 8th July and he has a month to claim his small boys shirt. It says season 16/17 kit and there is a sticker saying that 17/18 kits are not available from voucher until 14th August 6 days after his voucher runs out if it's not possible with his voucher.

Called the club to find out how this works as the 16/17 kit is no longer on sale so how can he collect his shirt. Apparently they save some back for the vouchers. I asked if there was any flexibility and was fiemly told no. OK disappointed that it's not the new kit still a nice gesture but he already has the home, third and goalkeepers top. As you can imagine my son was upset. I told him I'll get him the home top when it comes out.

Not quite sure how to feel, as the title says don't want to be ungrateful but I do feel a bit miffed. Should I just shut up and put up and shut up or should I ask the club for some leeway?[/QUOTE

Key phrases highlighted IMHO :)

Still proud to wear my Donatello shirt from 1998.

Some pretty nasty posts on this thread. Hats off to the OP for his/her good grace.

From when the Albion played in a town near you.

Yes. Those were the days (of convenient travel, and dreadful football). Jeff Minton et al. Well, Jeff Minton and Kerry Mayo.

Update. After all that I went in and he and any kid born after 1st July get given the new home top. Can't collect till middle of August but been told that it will be OK even though it's over a month after his birthday.

The boy will be chuffed to bits.
