The Live in Leningrad version of Far Beyond the Sun is sublime and Yngwie at his peak. As for Vai ( soon to appear at the Dome!) I would have to plum for G3 version of For The Love of God.

Ha, I saw the tour of Malmsteen around live in Leningrad at Hammersmith. Absolutely incredible!

And as for Vai, I'd be there except that I'm a bit more than broke ATM. Incidentally, it was between for the love of God and the softer prayer track, which was sublime when I saw him at Portsmouth a couple of years back.

Have a listen to Blowin Free by Wishbone Ash then play Reelin in the years and guess where Walter/Becker got their ideas from

I am very familiar with both bands (saw WA at the Dome in 74). I see no evidence of plagiarism. For plagiarism see Muse (blatent rip off of Radiohead). WA are a folk-inspired rather ploddy romantic English band, whose stock in trade is the slow building epic, with 'duelling' lead guitars. Steely Dan are a Jaz inspired American band whose stock in trade (mostly) was 3-5 minute witty tunes with numerous key changes, and quite fast and intricate guitar solos, often double tracked. I think this is a minor level tune similarity thing

I read somewhere once (may have been Strummer's autobiography) that guitar solos are basically musical :tosser: and that those who play them are just show offs.

However, If we're talking 'Ultimate Guitarist', I'd give that title to Robert Johnson. He did sell his soul after all...
