Looks like Murray is going to have a great chance in the Aussie Open.

Djokovic has just been knocked out in the second round by a 30 year old journeyman wild card who didn't win a single ATP match in 2016!

Just because Djokovic is out means nothing in terms of winning this, sure he is now favorite but there are plenty who could beat Murray on there day.

Federer is in the same side of the draw as Murray. They could meet in the quarter finals.

I think the point is, with Djokovic now out with every win Murray has his lead at the top increases,

Murray reached the final last year so unless he reaches the final again he will lose points. Think that is how it works. Not as many as Novak, granted!

Pretty much. Technically they both lose all their points from last year, Djok will get few now from this year, and AM will need to reach the final to replace his points. So, ND will be more or less 2000 points worse off and the deeper AM goes in the tournament, the more distance he puts between him and ND in the ranking points. AM always claimed this would be his best chance of getting to no.1 as ND had such a great start to the year last year, keeping those points would be difficult, but Andy might have a similar problem in the back half of the year as his results after Paris for the rest of the year were outstanding.

Novak has dropped to 9,825 ranking points, Murray will have a minimum of 11,450 after the Aussie Open finishes.

Andy's lead before the open was 780 points it will now be at least 1625 and will go up if he progresses further.

Murray is less than evens to win the tournament now.

Personally I think a resurgent Nadal is the best value of the remainder - you can get 12/1 on Nadal. Nish is 28/1, Fed 22/1, but I'd fancy Murray to beat all of them really.

I'm quite shocked to see Novak beaten over five sets. Have a two set blip yes, but you don't expect him to go down in three against a journeyman. Will be the biggest upset of this major, if not the season. As for Andy having a right to passage, this result will lift all the top players and Murray can expect a 'cup final' every time he plays one of them now. Favourite yes, winner? I don't think so... just yet.

Murray safely through then.

Dan Evans also doing rather well. Knocked out #6 seed Cilic last round, now a set up against local lad Tomic in a game that always looked like it would be tight on paper. Second set tie break about to begin...

Not forgetting, Jo Konta is also through to round three, in the women's singles. She has risen from 150 in the world, to 9.

Dan Evans going well but signs he may be running out of a little bit of steam.

Some bad blood between him and Tomic on a Friday night in front of a partisan home crowd is fun to watch.

You have to hand it to Evans, into the last 16 having had a very difficult path to get here. Tsonga up next which will be tough.
