So you wasn't pulling my leg over Kidds Hill after all then SB 
It was exactly as you said, not quite living up to it's billing.
After fording a stream (got to love Audaxing!) at the bottom of yet another wet and dodgy lane, we turned onto a climb that went up into the trees. After a bit of climbing we began to wonder of this was Kidds Hill, but with a very slight bend in the road, we thought, perhaps not. Then it straightened out and seemed to go on forever, dead straight. We asked another rider and he confirmed it was indeed Kidds Hill.
It's no easy climb, granted. I certainly crawled up it and was very glad of my lowest gear, but it certainly didn't feel like a 'Top 100' climb. I can indeed think of half a dozen hills round this way that I'd rate as harder and that I'd be a lot less happy to be confronted with at that point in a long hilly ride . Good to sample it though and it is in a lovely part of the world.

The Audax was called Hills and Mills. I see on Strava that one of our group called it... Hills, Hills, Hills and Mills
That was about the sum of it! My Strava stats from my trusty Bryton Rider gave me a total elevation of 8,363 ft over the 102.8 miles ( we rode to and from the start/finish rather than drive there) Not sure how accurate that elevation figure is to be honest, but it was certainly the hilliest ride I've ever done.
I could please Moto and say that Marden's Hill was the 'best', but to be perfectly honest I can't even remember what one that was as the hills just kept on coming!

If you wanted a proper hilly ride SB, right over in our neck of the woods, in the best part of Sussex, then Mad Jacks Audax at the end of next month would be the best introduction to some of the best climbs we have locally ( although the route appears to go down King's Hill Road, and Battery Hill, rather than up these two brutes).
I've never done this Audax, but know others who have, and they say it's brutal, because of the amount of climibing and the state of the roads that time of the year and the habit of the weather being a tad chilly.
I know pretty much all the climbs on it, having had a quick look at the route. I'm very tempted, but not so confident of riding to and from the start/finish for this one.

Maybe, just maybe the authors of the list take a few other factors into account? If you were charged with that role and there were in your opinion proper hills albeit in Thamesmead, Peckham or Merthyr Tydfil would you put them in? Me neither.

Yes, clearly location plays a huge part in the ratings, or else Ditchling Beacon wouldn't gain quite so much prominence either. The view of our ground, once you've reached the top, is rather lovely though

Not to mention climbs to Goodwood, Harting or all the 'hidden' climbs esp around Petworth.
Blackdown which is the highest point of The Downs.
Further afield Old Winchester and Butser Hills have more of a statement about them that 'The Wall', which just isn't.
Maybe that's what I'm bibbling about, if it were called The Speed Bump, I wouldn't be all titsy now!

After doing some hills in France last year I now look out of my window at the Southdowns, and think why was I so worried. All I’ve got to do is get my mojo back, and get back on it.
