Mostly boring.
Being a life long resident of the general area. I wouldn't count anything north of the railway line, regardless of what estate agent flannel or borough ward boundaries would try on. Totally different demographic. In rough terms, south of the railway you have a 50:50 split between Bungalow land and posh detached 4 bed housing. What stands out is the complete lack of any amenities, it is pretty much all residential. The cafe is nice and popular and so is walking along the promenade.

I technically live in Goring but within a Ferring post code area.
Goring, like many other places, has perhaps some slightly less desirable areas but Ferring is an absolutely excellent village with many ongoing activities especially for seniors. It has great village character but, as one other poster says, has an excellent Asda nearby but not near the centre of the village. The joy of both and Ferring in particular is the low volume of traffic though who can guarantee that ongoing.

Apparently when they named Goring, the typist hit the 'G' instead of the 'B' as they're next to each other, so its a Typo....
Done a fair bit of work there over the years, if they are 60+ they'll probably fit in and like it. Even if the cafe owner is a bellend and wants to make a profit rather than sit at home on benefits...

Good points - however in the spirit of local rivalry it should be noted that you Ferring chaps don't have street lighting. Which makes moving around on foot in Ferring an activity best undertaken between the hours of 10 and 3 during the winter months.

Agree with most of the above. Around Aldsworth and Sea Lane it's fairly affluent. Towards Chatsmore High School and the train station are more, erm, "modest" neighbourhoods. Basically if you go northeast you hit Durrington 
. If you head west past the Gap, you hit Ferring

As others have mentioned, boring maybe, but since OP's parents have retired, that's a subjective issue.

Ah but I live in Goring about 100 yards before the street lamps finish when Ferring starts.
It does however say something that Ferring, with no street lamps, is a particularly safe place with no apparent high crime level !
I agree that, in general terms, either is a very decent place to live and especially as it is an excellent area for interesting dog walking !
If you've seen the prices and the queues to be served, hearing that the Sea Lane Cafe "makes a mint" would not be news to you.
