Perfectly reasonable.
In which case, one of the first names that springs to mind is Hirokazu Koreeda. Love that director. And Asghar Farhadi. Need to see the Salesman again when it's out soon.

I remember the days when it was possible to regularly see such films at cinemas in Brighton. The two being the Continental in Kemp Town and the Paris in New Road.
The down side was that in those days if people knew you were a patron you were usually considered to be someone going to hard porn shows even though the sex in the films (if present) was very low key.

Anything with Sandrine Bonnaire works for me like 'Monsieur Hire'. Agree about 'La Haine'.
Really good film. Thought it would be cheesy as well but incredibly uplifting.

By far the best film Ive seen in the past few years, French or not. Everyone I've introduced to it has LOVED it too. Why the feck we don't show quality films like this in our cinemas is beyond me when we've got 8 screens showing the same latest marvel comic pap Hulk versus Dan Dare VI etc with row upon row of empty seats...
