Great morning on Hove seafront for the 10k. A PB from the man in form and a tempo run from me where I couldn’t lift up to 5k pace till the run in. 45:42 disappointing but 2” mins up on Worthing in June and good to run a comfortable 10k, the NSC favourite distance.

Another fine display of disciplined running from the Gaffer. Another bad 10k for me, 43:02. ??? I've only ever been able to run a good 10k once, which was this race last year when I narrowly edged out the big fella with a 39:00 dead, which he himself has emulated today unless the official time gets him a 38:59. I'm thinking only about a 5k SB to get myself up the table and then in the new year I'll have to think about the plans for next year.

Anyone else doing the Beachy Head Marathon next Sat? Going to be my first attempt so in blissful ignorance of all the hills at the moment. Forecast looks good so that will be a bonus.

I am not, but I have done it twice. The Sisters are a sideshow, the real hills are in the first half. You get some absolutely sensational views, so long as there isn't a low fog, and the villagers have a great time baking and getting little stands of food on the go. It's a great event but don't be worrying about the time, it's a savage event with hill after hill and over a hundred steps. Just before mile 17 you get to go over a small gate, it's only a foot or two off the ground but the first time I did the event, my quad locked up completely. It remains the only time I've ever done that, and I never want to feel it again. I would take it very seriously when you get to it, don't try and athletically leap over it or not think about it. Show it the respect it deserves and you'll be fine.

Have I Got Good News For You! I think you have a minor victory with [MENTION=18183]big nuts[/MENTION] just missing sub 39 with a 39:01. Gives him something to chase at the Brooks 10K next month.

Giving it a miss this year (*might* be doing a race on Sunday instead). Beachy is really brilliant though...have done it half a dozen times. Don’t worry about your time, don’t try to run in the first half mile or so, wave to Pete the Piper, thank the volunteers, stop for a bun and cup of tea at Littlington and try not to swear too much in the last 10k as the Seven B*tches bite you on the arse, time and again [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]........and take your trunks for a swim afterwards. Top, top race.

Just repeat this whilst running the "Eight" Sisters; Haven, Short, Rough, Brass, Flagstaff, Flat, Baileys, Went. Then look forward to the long climb from Birling Gap to the Beachy Head Pub.

Can’t believe it. 38:59 maybe 39:00 probably but I didn’t expect a downgrade to 39:01. Disgraceful scenes.

Bodes well for the Brighton 10k in 4 weeks if conditions are good. My first mile was kamikaze stuff at 5:57 and the leaders were still in sight. Managed to calm myself down from the 3rd K and managed a decent end to the run.

Such a lovely day, if you could run in that every day the world would be a better place.

Need to do some intervals and tempo work ahead of the Jigsaw 10k at Dunsfold

Mrs H is running it and I'll be snapping away with the long lens and cheering her on. Best of luck. Wear any Seagull identifiers and you get a free cheer.

Anyone else doing the Beachy Head Marathon next Sat?

Sort of. I shall be there with the Sussex Sport Photography team trying hard to capture your anguish. Best of luck.

Yep, I'm there – third year in a row. I absolutely love it and in a way, ignorance is possibly best. As others have said, don't worry about the time, soak up the atmosphere and the views and accept the fact that the last 10k is going to be hell (and a lot of walking).

First meaningful run since IMW at the beginning of September, so I'm not expecting a PB. Especially since I walked a load of THAT marathon

Had a fantastic day at the Toronto Waterfront Marathon. It turned out to be great conditions to run in, about 2 degrees when I lined up at the start, even a little bit of snow in the air. Not ideal for spectating, but it's Canada so everyone has plenty of winter clothes! I set myself a target of 1:25 for the half marathon and it soon became apparent I was going to smash that. I crossed the line with a chip time of 1:22:57. Don't you just love it when you sneak inside a time, even an arbitrary one like 1:23? I also crossed the line with a can of beer in my hand! I'm part of a running club called Run-TO-Beer, and they handed a beer to anyone wearing one of their singlets, 200m from the finishing line.

According to Strava I set quite a few PBs on the way. A 10m of 1:02:25, 10k of 38:39 and 5k of 18:58. Obviously these aren't official, but I'm super happy with them.

Now the training for a potential sub 3 marathon in Phoenix in February begins...

I was waiting to hear what your marathon time was and then realised they must run the half at the same time? Anyway, congrats on the time for the half – that's awesome. – and good luck for the sub-3 training!

Thank you! Yes, it's the same start for both the marathon and half-marathon. As you can see from the map, the half (in blue) goes all the way out to the west and then comes back to finish not far from the start. The full (in red) goes all the way out to the west, then all the way out to the east, before finishing at the same place. There's the point where they have two giant inflatable arches with half runners turning right to the finish and full runners carrying on straight. I always think this must be pretty horrible for those people doing the full marathon, seeing the half people heading to the finish.

:lolol:

Technically it was illegal for me to drink my beer at the finish, but perfectly legal if I'd lighted up a spliff!

I'm not surprised. He's yawning as if he'll be asleep any minute, just like his Eastbourne mate next to him!
