Clubs we must look to finish above

Huddersfield play Klopp style - mega high intensity, high pressing in final third. I didn't think they'd keep it up right til end of season in the Champ, I was wrong.

I would be absolutely FLABBERGASTED if they kept it up for a whole season in the Prem. Expect them to drop off MASSIVELY from Christmas/January time onwards. I think it's an incredibly risky strategy they employ.

Although they did, they did so at the price of not scoring for (how many games was it?).

If they try that in the Prem, as you say, they will be in even bigger trouble.

Bet365 now have us at 10/11 for the drop. That price will not get any better, its practically buying money.

This was posted on the Palace forum yesterday

NSC's resident chubby racist Easy10 will have a heart attack if they sign a load of Africans.

The Ugandan nation (who all support Brighton) are incredibly excited though.

Still lots of quality, witty "bants" on there then I see

Huddersfield will not finish any higher than 14th IMO. Their start flatters them (they've done well but their fixtures have been kind). I reckon they will do what Blackpool did in their only season at this level - 7 points from their first 3 games, and they were outside the relegation zone nearly all season but they gradually slid down the table and were relegated on the final day. Huddersfield might stay up, but mid-table is laughable.

We will see, let's come back to it later in the season. The only way Huddersfield will go down is if the manager gets tempted by a bigger club.

There are less games in the Premier League and more time between them.

That's right. The idea of the league is that it is supposed to be as fair as possible, as you hope the luck evens out over the course of a season and generally the better teams rise to the top and the worse teams to the bottom. But it does rely on integrity from the participants, of which Huddersfield showed they had none.

Blackburn had to play 46 games against full strength teams. Birmingham only had to play 45 against full strength teams and in one game they might reasonably have expected to get only a point or none at all, they were handed a crucial 3 points because Huddersfield chose to play their stiffs and kids as soon as automatic promotion was beyond them. It was utterly shameful and what is worse is the the FA didn't throw the book at them for it.

Are we really doing this again?

Yes we rotated our team. Yes we did that consistently during the season. Yes the team that played that game gave it their all. Yes they arguably competed harder than the more regular players did as they were looking to force their way into the side for the playoffs. Yes I was there. Yes we got good and drunk and didn't really care about the result. Yes we had a party. We could do all of this because we worked hard for the previous 44 games.

David Wagner didn't have access to the kind of resources that you or Newcastle did last season. Therefore he had to be smarter. Which he was, and thus we went up.

You were right then (and wrong now). They didn't keep it up. Remember they did get very close to us, but it was us that went on a long winning run in the last quarter of the season, while they dropped numerous points, finishing fifth.
If you're right that they won't be able to maintain it for the season (which is eight games shorter in the PL), then they may also be a relegation rival. But also remember that Klopp's lot are playing CL football this year and if they can't keep it up, we might just be able to sneak in two victories: the first in December, when they'll be knackered as the CL group stages draw to a close, and the second with our last game of the season, as they juggle CL, PL top four and FA Cup priorities

Looking particularly out of form right now:
Palace
Watford
Bournemouth

Out of form but likely to improve:
West Ham

Other likely strugglers:
Newcastle
Huddersfield
Swansea

Could get drawn into it:
Burnley
Leicester
Stoke
Southampton

I'd put us in the top category right now, but a lot can change quickly, and form and going well one minute, can be 4 straight defeats the next. A lot of football to be played before we start thinking it is just us and 3 others.

Looks like Rafa will be off soon, Dancing Alan to return to the toon? Would be funny.

https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...tez-job-offers-newcastle-mike-ashley-west-ham

Not as funny as him returning to Palace after FDB gets the push.

This (from that article) however is piss funny:

Despite Benítez cutting the wage bill by around £200,000 a week in the last 10 days, Newcastle failed to sign anyone on deadline day, leaving a manager who no longer believes it will be possible to fulfil his ambitions of leading the team back into the Champions League under Ashley’s administration, without a fit specialist left-back.

We need to forget every other team and first and foremost focus on not embarrassing ourselves. If we can beat Derbys record by Xmas and stay in any kind of mixer we should look at who to try and surpass.

'cheated'. Christ.
As I say, we are not doing this again. Why don't you toddle off to a Blackburn board with your tiresome faux bonhomie? I'm sure they'd love to hear how plucky Huddersfield behaved reasonably.

Can't see that it matters that much myself. I have a bigger issue with the loan system, but that's not aimed at Huddersfield, that's the system.

Still hope they do well and stay up, only not at our expense.
