Another option would be to buy something like the Amazon Fire Stick and just load Kodi onto there.

Yeah my sister has done that and it works fine but I'm concerned about Amazon's ongoing efforts to disrupt the use of KODI third party apps.

Done it on the cheapo Fires -- Fire 7, the $49 model -- takes 5 minutes. Side-loaded tons of allegedly Android-only apps, starting with Tapatalk, so's I can read NSC.

You'll usually find out about updates only when you run a program.
Amazon's not that forthcoming, even though for many of the apps, there's no native Amazon KIndle equivalent.
