I think you could well be spot-on. If a player wants out, generally speaking the club will (obviously) look to get as much as thet can for them so they can reinvest in the squad. Five million smackers will see young Liam plying his trade elsewhere. Sadly, it looks like my telling him (after the Leicester game) that Sundarland's shite & always bloody freezing seemingly hasn't worked especially well. :annoyed:

Well, it was worth a good try!

I doubt very much that £5m is a price Sunderland are going to pay anyway.

I've got my doubts as well, If Sunderland are parting with £5m then I can see that being a joint fee for Bridcutt and Buckley. I'd love to be wrong though.

Would £5M not be an acceptable fee to you for those 2?

That sort of money could get us Conway in for very little, and potentially a mobile CB and another overseas striker.

If the club were serious about promotion all key players would be kept until the summer, as we did with Bennet.:albion2:

I can't believe you're still trotting out that line. We will get over a HUNDRED MILLION POUNDS if we get promoted, about the same as what Bloom leant the club in the first place. Tell me, why would he not be serious about getting promoted?

Your problem is you're too thick to understand the basics of running a business, and can't see the difference between making the club a sustainable one and building the foundations to make it a successful Premier League one for the long term and 'not being serious about promotion'.

Indeed. If I were running the club and I was 'serious about promotion' I'd look to cash in on a saleable asset, in an area where we definitely have cover, with the aim to strengthen in other areas where we are somewhat weaker. Making the squad better.

I agree with these principles and would be happy to see Bridcutt leave on that basis. Time alone will tell if "we strengthen in areas that we are somewhat weaker", especially during this transfer window, but ultimately I think we all have to trust TB to do what's best for the club. And, of course, he's got a pretty good track record on this.

No brainer really. If Bridcutt wants out and we can get a decent fee for him we should let him go, however good he has been for us. Hope it happens soon and we can get onto some positive transfer news...maybe.

Personally I think £5m is about right for the pair and as long as either all of it or the majority of it is reinvested in the team then it could be a good deal for the club, I've just got my doubts Sunderland would part with £5m just for Bridcutt.

I'd agree with that, as great as Buckley can be the fact his hamstrings appear to be made of paper means he will spend more time in the treatment room than on the pitch. Getting Conway in who seems to be stronger, although not as exciting and flairtastic, is more direct and appears to have a better end product would be a good deal in my book. I believe Conway crossing to Big Len could lead to a bit of a goalfest for us.

The only downside to the deal is the fact we won't be able to sing "I wanna dance with Will Buckley"

I may be out of line here, but I would be disappointed if we didn't cash in on Bridcutt at this time, provided we got a reasonable fee (around £3-3.5m imo). Thanks to the emergence of Ince, Crofts impressive showing and the addition of Andrews and Agustien et al Liam is no longer the be all and end all of of our midfield. I think a good deal would be beneficial to all parties, Liam gets a shot at the Premier League, Sunderland get a good player, and we get some money to strengthen the thinner areas of the squad. Obviously the price has to be right, but I do not see Liam moving upwards as a bad thing.

The players who need ring fencing are Ulloa and Barnes who ARE essential to the team as they are the only functioning forwards at the club. Both indispensable at the moment.

Both are worth around 3 million in my opinion, so something around 6 million would represent excellent business and would give Oscar the chance to re-invest wisely and the club to re-coup some cash
