The LibDems have said, explicitly, that its policy is to remain or apply for re-entry if already out by the time of the next GE.

I can't see them getting lots of support though

Well I am going to be voting for them purely because of this, and I know plenty of other people doing the same thing.

They're still left, just not as left as some.

Or a credible and electable leader.

But with respect Bozza - you're a Tory boy. I don't want a leader that you find credible, I want someone who socialists, greens and the many people who think "they are all the same" find credible, cheers

Presumably, there's no guarantee that Corbyn would automatically be on the ballot paper for leader again? Would he also not need the backing of 51 MPs and MEPs to be eligible to stand?

There seems to be some debate around this. I believe Corbyn would challenge any assertion that was not automatically on the ballot paper. You'd think he'd just get on with being backed by 51 MPs and MEPs. Unless of course his support is so weak he could not even muster that of course...

No, no I'm not. And I was not talking about me anyway.

You seem to be claiming that those who aren't allied beyond Corbyn, the centre-left, "just want the eternal chaos of permanent leadership elections". I'm saying that I don't believe they do. By all means quote those who have said this is what they wish for.

My assertion is that you are at best being over-dramatic and at worst just plain wrong. All they want is a leader they believe is capable of leading the Labour Party into a General Election with a genuine chance of success.

Cheers.

So you think Labour have a bright future even if they don't capture any of the electorate occupying the centre ground? Er, good luck with that. :dunce:

Quite. Unfortunately for you there are about 17 million people who will not be voting for the Lib Dems for exactly the same reason!

This is the crux of it.

With JC as leader, Labour will not capture ANY of the centre, let alone enough to win a GE. If the party genuinely wants to challenge for government, they need a leader who a majority of the country could see being PM. Even many JC supporters have said that they don't see him as PM material.

Oh I know. But if the Lib Dems get enough seats to make themselves kingmakers, with that policy completely non-negotiable, then they won't need huge numbers of people voting for them.

And it will be a delicious irony that a party that has campaigned so vehemently for a fairer voting system will actually end up holding sway on this issue with about 15% of the vote (which is probably about as good as it could get for them).

I'm not a Tory. I have views that are in line with Corbyn's, but I have to agree that he is not credible. His supporters are desperate to paint this as a left / right argument so that they can label anyone who opposes them as Blairites. It is not a left / right argument. It is a competence argument. Corbyn is not very good at the job of leader of the opposition. He is awful at the job of leader of the Labour Party. The split has been presented as his MPs not being sure that he wanted to campaign to remain in the EU. I suspect that they are more scared that he actually was doing his best and that is the best they can hope for all the time he is in charge.

Hope Corbyn stays so Labour splits, rebels form new party with lib dems. Early elections no overall majority for Tories: coalition, new party policy to block Brexit, Brexit iced.

I really don't believe there will be mass deselections - once Corbyn wins again - this time by probably about 80 per cent - an olive branch will be offered to all the plotters to work constructively for the good of all Labour Party supporters. As serious people, I expect them to take it. Meanwhile, some good will come of this backbiting, we are now on the road to becoming a million-member party

this assumes that Corbyn, the team around him or the wider Corbynite support understand what an olive branch is. if they did, how are they in this situation already? unless all the reports from within the party itself about Momentum and so on are false, there are already deselection in play as local constituencies are taken over by Corbynites.

Usual load of nonsense being spouted by people who would never vote Labour, all this shite about wanting a strong opposition , course they do. If you were a government you want a shambles like 2001 so you can get in power and go to war illegally without anyone questioning it.

It's like an Albion fan wanting a strong Palace team, no you don't a real fan wants them to struggle and get relegated.

Eagle's campaign is doomed to failure and she will be out on her ear like all the other Tories like Peter Kyle in Hove.

What is your issue with Kyle? He won a very difficult seat for the party you supposedly support.
