Yes YES YES YES! Finally another person on the entire planet (I'm the only other one by the way) who can see this formulaic schmaltzy American pile of feel good lets make a cliched prison film by numbers effort for what it is! Andy DuFresne has pulled the wool over too many non-demanding film goers for far too many years and longer than his own life sentence. Cheshire Cat, I alone salute you, now bring on the thumbs down the rest of you 'Shawshankers'

Some very good films mentioned on this thread but this is my favourite for the comedy value.

It used to be papillon, until I spotted divers under Steve Mcqueen and his bag of floating coconuts, so the Great Escape is my favourite film, Prison Break is the best prison series.

very good film,based on real events

never found any bodies,I reckon they did pull it off

The Green Mile- the only film i have ever had to fast forward a certain scene after watching it the first time.
Great film though but that scene lives with you.
Also another vote for Midnight Express.

Cell 211. A Spanish film about a prison guard on his first day at work when a riot breaks out and he must pretend to be one of the inmates in order to survive. An excellent film.

Special mention must go to Starred Up. Jack O' Connell is brilliant in it.
