You sound like me! I've seen O 3 times and would go again, by far the best Cirque I've seen. Also WSOP is a great time to be there. Played in main event 3 times but prefer the Venetian deepstack series now ... although 3 years since I played it :(

You have spent $30000 on 3 buy ins?

So 1) Either swerve the show and a) sit by pool longer of b) play poker longer!!
Or 2) See if there is a matinee show and switch pool for show and go to pool after!!

Job done!

Guessing he satellited(won a smaller tournie for the buy in) in like I have on a few occasions.......its the biggest tournie for the buy in in the world with $7-9m to the winner and a lot of useless players in it so anyone who knows anything about poker should always try to play it!

A lot of useless players and pretty much every pro in the world. And I played a lot of poker but would never play the main event. I understand the draw of playing the biggest tournament in the world but satellite or not, you are spending over $10000 for the privilege. If that is what you want to do then fine but to suggest that anyone who knows anything about poker should play it is just plain wrong. The EV is not in your favour so it is not a good poker decision.. More like a professional gambler buying a raffle ticket. Or shoving 4 5s against Ivey just to say you did.

I beg to differ, if you can get into it for say $1k outlay then the EV could be massive just for a min cash with the potential of a monster life changing score. Since they changed the starting stack to 30k now I believe with 2hr clocks any decent player should be able to get in the money unless they have a massive blow up or run into a massive cooler.

Anyway bit off subject and everyone will have a different opinion I guess!

Or you could just take the $10k for winning the satellite. Obviously the EV is good for $1k to win millions but which ever way you cut it, you are paying $10k. If I put £1 on a horse and get £10 back and then put that on another horse, I am betting £10.

And I think your definition of decent player differs wildly from mine. I consider myself a decent player - won around £1000 in both online and casino tournaments. That is a long, long way away from being in the top 1000 players in the world which is essentially what you need to be in order to cash. It is obviously a good idea if you are a very good player but the reason there are as many bad players in the tournament as you say is because there are a lot of people who satellited in along with with rich people having fun. But there are an awful lot of pros in there as well.

I would love to play a WSOP event but wouldn't consider paying $10k to do it. I can fully understand why people do it - my only argument is your claim that anyone who knows anything about poker should do it.

What if u win an online package or offline saying that which doesnt allow u to take the cash instead of playing the event? Prior to Black Friday these used to be massive on Full Tilt and Stars but now dont seem to be as popular.

And yeah think we have different opinions on good player! £1k nowadays is a drop in ocean compared to what can be won out there now!! Think I cashed for $30k odd when I was there for 6 wks and obv used this for ME buy in, other tournies and other expenses!

You dont need to pony up $10k to play a WSOP event thats just for the big ones(ex One Drop obv!) and think the Colossus is $565 buy in with loads of others ranging from $1k-$5k........tbh I much prefer the Venetian DSE events when/if I go but will always try to aim to win the buy-in for the ME for the value.

Maybe I should re-phrase my original statement! Anyone who is half decent at poker(£5k+ winnings) and is prepared to take the gamble for a life changing score should always try to play it.........that better?!!

Must have bumped into you I was very much a Ladbrokes player. My heyday was 2006-2011 ... Pals with the likes of Richlizard, Skalie, Paul Jackson (staked by him for a while) Strummer and plenty of others. Did all their cruises too which were non stop laughs. Qualified for Poker Million and got knocked out by Marty Smyth making a bad call to my shove, he went on to win it too.

The online game has changed too much since (bots, tracking tools) but live in LV still has plenty of buzz. Miss it enormously
