If you want a site that is going to earn you revenue (i.e. for a business) make sure to ask them to make it responsive. This basically means it can be viewed easily on a mobile/tablet. The amount of web designers I've seen these days which still don't offer this as standard is quite shocking. Up to 30% of views can be from handheld devices these days, it's super important to give your business a professional look and convert more visitors to sales.
