Hmmm. spend peanuts, get monkeys. When will we learn?

We didn't spend peanuts. Read the accounts. We didn't spend wisely which is why Burke was sacked, but please stop thinking that Bloom didn't fork out a fortune.

The last player we signed from Preston (as far as I can remember, anyway - if there have been any since, I apologise!) turned out alright!

Yes please. Another successful striker AT LEAGUE 1 LEVEL.

Palace promoted with Glenn Murray a successful striker at L1 LEVEL
Watford promoted with Troy Deeney a successful striker originally at L1 LEVEL
Burnley promoted with Danny Ings a successful striker at L1 Level
Bournemouth promoted with Callum Wilson, Chris Wood - big part in Leicester getting promoted signed from L1 etc etc

Might not have worked with CMS. Might yet still work with Baldock alongside who knows.
But no truth at all that in recent seasons L1 strikers sometimes bought cheaply aren't key to Championship teams promoted.

Of this years top championship goal scorers...

Daryl Murphy - free transfer
Troy Deeney - less than £500K
Ighalo - season long loan
Gestede small fee

of last years
Grabban - £300K (from Rotherham)
Vokes - £350K
McCormack - (believed to be) less than £1m

of 12/13
Murray, Wood, Tom Ince, Charlie Austin, Deeney all 20+ or thereabouts goalscorers for Champ club. All either free or small fees or youth.

Again there is lots of evidence in terms of fees that spending smartly, peanuts if you like, on a striker can get you promoted and spending a fortune isn't necessarily the answer.
(ask Blackburn re: Rhodes, Forest re: Assambalonga, Fulham re: McCormack)

Danny Ings was also £1 million from league 1 Bournemouth.

TBH, if our beloved club don't invest IN THE FIRST TEAM SQUAD this season, then Tony will be making ANOTHER MAHOOSIVE mistake (following the Fin/Burke ****-ups). Watch the fan base dwindle again, less money in, vicious circle. Do you not agree?

No not at all. It's the right players they don't need to be expensive. If they are free or cheap from the lower leagues or abroad but are good and help push the team in the right direction who cares what they cost.

Exactly. We should be more concerned if they're really expensive. Look at Ross McCormack at Fulham this season!

Money doesn't always tell the true picture in football.

I'd rather the club forgets English football entirely.

They should be going round the rest of the planet's 'lesser' strikers, with a picture of Ulloa saying:-

'do you want some of this'?

It's a damn site bigger pull than any stadium or training facilities.
Plus you can be fairly sure whoever they end up with, it won't be a pampered prima donna with a wag to feed, while their agent demands £20k a week, and a 4 year contract.

Lets not run before we can walk. Lets build a team of decent hard working players instead of one or two individuals because individual can do eff all on their own

Just been watching the game, Garner looks bit of a Barnes to me. Puts himself about, can win and hold a ball. Him and Baldock might be quite a nice front pairing.

Can only imagine it is a possibility if PNE don't go up

I agree, but our recent track record in lower league striker talent spotting is ****ing awful.
