There does not seem to be any significant cooling trend and it taking an absolute eternity for anything cold to be reaching here. Monday 11 c, Tuesday 9c, Wednesday 8c, Today 8c and BBC going for 7 c at the week end. So I ask, are temperatures likely to go from 7 c to near freezing daytime temperatures within the space of 24 hours ? It is spring like at the moment so this is why I am so sceptical as this cold just seems to be put back day after day, so will it actually ever turn up or will it stay in France ?

Spring like? Are you going through the menopause? It's sunny, but warm it is not.

You know what, I think you're got it right this time.

No one ever suggested that it would be freezing cold this week. And if you’re basing your weather predictions on the BBC, then I feel very sorry for you. The BBC forecast is usually absolutely useless. Try netweather.

There is no doubt that it will be very cold next week, close to freezing or below for much of the week, but my snow confidence is starting to fall I'm afraid. Each time net weather udpates their forecast it seems to gets worse and I've noticed over time that the trend on their model is as important as the actual forecast. i.e. if it is showing four days of possible snow, but then drops to 2 days then 1, it could quite conceivably drop back to none! It rarely picks up the pace again. No science behind this at all, just a pattern that I've seen before.

That said my snow globe forecasting thing is still going nuts, having been dormant even since I got it.

Netweather forum has literally crashed with excitement.

But back to the topic at hand, I’m sure we will see some of the white stuff. Just not sure how much!

The problem is snowfall is hard to predict. However, contrary to US post earlier, it seems 100% nailed on that we are going to get cold or more likely very cold.

Next issue is wind direction as this will impact the amount of snow and where it falls. So, it is possible (but IMO unlikely), that we could get a scenario of slack SE winds which are cold but not delivering much flumpage here as it would be more further north due to the generation of snow showers over the North Sea (in which case the US prediction of ‘No Snow’ would be technically correct, but for the wrong reason. However, it appears much more likely that the synopsis for the next 1-2 weeks (at least) is for multiple chances of snow all over the UK and probably record-breaking March temps. There are mpdel runs which, if they come to fruition, could see copious amounts of snow down south. We’re talking EPIC . However, as I said at first, nothing is certain as small changes can impact events.

I have to say the 12z ECMWF looks much more favourable than the GFS in sustaining the cold period longer than the working week.

The only data that is not favourable is the GFS Op2 run. Everything else gives cold through Friday with snow potential each day. Details, as I've said, is very hard to tie down, but there is huge potential

Twitter is in meltdown about next week.

I just can't make my mind up. This forum is sitting on the fence. I don't like that lol

I’m still looking forward to the 8-12 degree temps.

This is getting very fcking tedious now. I said that for this week. Are people really this thick ?

Enjoy the thread. You will be glad to know I am off. It is all a bit too serious and hostile over what is a bit of snow, possibly. Everyone can agree with each other now and have a collective over the latest models. Cheerio

You also said that we can’t get snow/cold this late and it won’t last as the sun is too strong now. This is potentially an EPIC time for cold/snow lovers. You had egg on your face a few years back when saying taht nothing would happen and we got heavy snow (2009 or 2010 from memory). Yes, the models do get it wrong, but this has been consistent for days now - it’s happening and just the details still to be clarified, but that won’t be know until 12-24 hours before things happen as instability affects snow.
