I read in the Argus that not only are Philander, Wiese and Shahzad injured but Robinson is too (as well as the Goff leaving the field yesterday). How the hell have we got an injury list before the end of the second game? What are the conditioning/medical team doing?

And what's happened to Garton and Sakande? Why are we bringing in a bloke from league cricket when we have staff members not playing?

Rob Andrew is going to have is work cut out to get Sussex back to winning ways.

Matches are over so quickly at the moment that they may as well save a few quid and go part time

Sussex starting to turn the screw - another 88 runs and Notts would have been forced to bat again. Worrying.

Notts are going to be a major force in Division 2 this season. Considering that there are no test matches until July this year, Broad, Pattinson and Ball are going to fill their boots with wickets at that level whenever they are available.

Sussex have got problems though. Injuries already and the loss of Philander and Shahzad is going to leave them very blunt in terms of being able to take 20 wickets in a match while their batting line-up is brittle and clearly in transition.

Notts and Kent look like taking a lot of shifting at the top of Division 2, while Durham will win more than they will lose although they obviously have their points deduction. Hard to see Sussex getting more than halfway up the table.

Perhaps before Jim leaves his post he should suggest the players get paid for the days they actually play any cricket. It would save them loads in wages the way they are performing.

Wooden spoon beckoning

No. We're better than Leicestershire (even without their points deduction) and Glamorgan - and probably better than Derbyshire. But given our recent history, we should be pushing for promotion.

Today was a pitiful result. I could name you 3 Bexhill CC lads better than Barton...........

I can't remember the last time our side was this weak. We've gone from Liverpool to Hartlepool in 5 years.

We will pick up as Kent and Notts are particularly strong and will be too much for most of the division.
But there's no way we are competing for promotion.
It'll be a case of eventually playing some teams who are even worse than us.
Davis has put faith in players who have let him down. But he doesn't convince as a leader either.
The club is in a mess.

Actually believe that the intended plan (unannounced) is a First Division of the eight Test grounds and the Franchise/City based T20 is testing the waters. Does anyone on here truly believe that the ECB is interested in the likes of Derbyshire (who are debt free and profitable) as opposed to clubs like Lancashire, Yorkshire and in the Tykes case heavily in debt.

Davis is not a leader, full stop and I'm not convinced about Wright's captaincy skills either - it seems to me he would be well advised to stop worrying about captaining the team and start spending a bit of time getting his own game sorted. The summer acquisitions are nothing to get excited about. Evans was an average Warwickshire fringe player and Van Zyl, while having a good first class batting record in SA, seems a long way off adjusting to English conditions. Rawlins and Archer (especially) have plenty of potential but other than them and the evergreen Goff its all a bit depressing really.

Quote from Sussex’s Director of Cricket Keith Greenfield about our new batting coach:

“At the start of the winter, he worked with our batsmen on the Professional staff on a part-time basis, and again it has been clear that his skills are making a significant difference to our players."

Sussex coaching = jobs for the boys.
