From a quick look at Cricinfo it was either Len Hutton or Wally Hammond, can't believe you would drop either of them, presumably a social faux pas must have taken place?

Just to prove that I can disagree with you
, I think this is somewhat premature. We'd need to find better batsmen than Moeen for it to apply. There are two that have put their names forward in this series, but they'll need to prove themselves in the long run. If Rashid really does come through, and especially in English conditions, then there's an argument for playing just three seamers, and using Moeen in short bursts, as he tends to take his wickets early. Alternatively, we could play six bowlers, which we've done on this tour. The key question for England is finding specialist batsmen to complement Cook and Root.

Is the right answer.
Not in the 1st innings though. Jennings is 1 of only 5 England batsman to score tons in the 1st innings on debut - WG Grace, George Gunn, Billy Griffith and Matt Prior are the others.

Of course. And clearly it may be premature but it appears we may have just found two. I just think Ali is playing two roles not quite well enough at the moment, I think he is more likely to make it as a Test Match 5, good occasional bowler than he is as a Test Match 8 and frontline spinner.
If Rashid continues to impress, I foresee a scenario where England fudge a selection playing Rashid and Ali in a home test series with Ali batting at 5. The pressure will then be on him to start making runs consistently. If Rashid were to start chucking pies again, I'd ber looking to replace him with a specialist spinner and using Ali in that role as a last resort.

They were two of the five triple hundred makers but neither of them was dropped (I'm sure plenty of people wanted to drop Hammond for his behaviour but he was too good a batsman). You're missing the first England player to score 300 (indeed, the first test cricketer from anywhere)
And, for your bonus, who was the other post-war triple centurion (ie apart from GG)?

The last England batsman to score a century and be dropped from the next test was Hick in 1998. Having scored a ton against Sri Lanka at The Oval he was dropped for the first Test of the Australia tour.

He was quite old when he created that record. I think he may have been injured and his career was pretty much halted.

It's a bit of cheat, England actually had two tours that winter but, in the days before A teams, they were both given official test status. Sandham was on the tour to the West Indies, led by the Hon Freddie Calthorpe (those were the days, don't bother about cricketers, get a nob in) while the tour to NZ had Sussex's Ted Bowley and Arthur Gilligan as two of the three openers.
Missing from both tours were Jack Hobbs and Herbert Sutcliffe ,who played in the first test against Australia that summer. (Hobbs' last series). Sandham, Gilligan, Bowley and Dawson never played for England again.
He was 40 but played FC for another eight years. He went on tour the following winter to South Africa but was injured there (he broke his leg in a motor-bike accident) - that's why he didn't play another test
