It seems that the boom bust period ended and left Major to steady the ship towards the end of his reign - for the Bliarites to claim as their own work.

Please dont forget our exit from the EMS.....

Interest rates up 2% in one day...billions of pounds wasted by Majors govt trying to prop up the pound

NEWS FROM CORPORATE MANAGEMENT TEAM (CMT): 4 OCTOBER

Following concessions this week from the Government's lawyers, (which the Council has been seeking since the early summer) LDC has now decided to accept a Consent Order quashing John Prescott's decision made in October 2005 to grant planning permission for a football stadium at Falmer. This ends LDC's legal challenge to Mr Prescott's decision and refers the whole matter back to the new Secretary of State, Ruth Kelly. The latest Government concessions have provided LDC with legal assurances that Ms Kelly will reconsider key parts of Mr Prescott's flawed decision, particularly those concerning protection of the South Downs and evaluation of alternative sites. So, the whole saga still has a bit further to go.

"evaluation of alternative sites"

FFS, haven't we done that enough already.

Ah, but we should see this as real progress. The language has been softened. No longer have "the government admitted" that Prescott's decision was "fatally" flawed.

And "the whole saga" now has only "a bit" further to go. See?

As David Neighbour has been caught saying, on more than one occasion, "You will get your stadium."

There is no further evaluation of alternative sites to be had. The second inspector made his opinion known, Prescott agreed. End of story.

Their beef is that they are hanging on the word of the first inspector who said Sheepcote Valley, despite not having any like the same amount of information that the second inspector had. They're funny fuckers that way are Lewes District Council.

Oh, and as stated earlier, the government made no further concessions to Lewes District Council beyond the ones they offered in March 2006. They are, in fact, f***ing liars.

Now come on, TLO. let's get our Inspectors in order, shall we? In Lewes & Nimby folklore, there are only Two Inspectors - Messrs Collyer and Hoile (the Local Plan inspector who advised rejection of Falmer in the B&H City Council Plan). In claiming to all and sundry that Prescott spurned the expert advice of Two Inspectors, they always forget to mention the inconvenient Mr Briers - the Third Inspector. Because they know that, rather than Prescott deciding in our favour on some working-class whimsy, it was Briers' expert advice that led to the 28 October 2005 Yes decision.

In our own Inspectors folklore, we tend to see only two Inspectors as well. Except that our two are Messrs Collyer and Briers.
