Rather harsh on Lord of War there Uncle S. I saw that the other week and thoroughly enojoyed it, but then I am a bit of a Cage fan. As for caring for the character - at the end of the day, he's an arms dealer, and the film (rightly) makes no attempt to justify what it is he does, or make him any more likable for it.

8.2. Good solid entertainment with fine performances all round.

GLENGARRY GLEN...

Alec Baldwin scorches, 4 May 2001

Author: Adam Malik from Winnipeg, Manitoba
Glengarry Glen Ross contains the greatest performance ever caught on film. Baldwin's role is about six minutes long and you wish it lasted for an hour.

He plays Blake, a job motivator who is asked to motivate the rest of the cast to encourage them to sell real-estate, and his motivations and handling of the dialogue just rip the screen apart cause it's just too small for him.

The rest of the cast is great and David Mamet writes one of his smartest scripts, but besides how great the cast is Alec Baldwin's performance just blows them all away.

I would give it closer to 7.3, but in general I think you are right. The character not being sympothetic allows the audience to think in an unbiased manner about the actions of the arms dealer.

Perhaps I am overly generous at times. But I think Nicolas Cage is always worth an extra point. One of the most consistantly excellent and adaptable actors it has been my pleasure to watch. The words "Typcast" and "Nicolas Cage" are as alien to each other as "Eddie Stobart Haulage " and "faulty food blender".

I love the way Nicolas Cage plays Nicolas Cage in every film he is in.

I'm really good to put the cat amoungst the pigeons with this statement

" Tom Cruise is a very underrated actor and always gives a good and reliable performance sometimes reaching excellence ".

Well, I don't want to hijack this thread by making it into a Cage fight (do you see what I did there ?), so I'll leave it there.

Loads of people seem to despise him, but I think he is out and out QUALLA. He has one of the most varied and entertaining portfolio of films of ANY actor.
