There's no vowel after A so you dont pop on the 'n'

There is an effing vowel !

The letter "F" is pronounced "Eff" so therefore the correct usage is "An F.A. Cup match"...but only when spoken. If it's written then surely "A F.A. Cup match" is correct

Indeed.

Indeed it is - it's not whether the letter is a consonant or vowel as it is written, but is it is pronounced. Hence "F" = "Ef", a vowel sound, "U" = "yu".

So, an FA Cup match, a UEFA cup match. Marvellous.
