And they took Earnshaw off just minutes before Stoke scored

Extract From The Latest Mills and Boon Novel....With
writing like this there really is no need for pictures! Or is there???

We met in a secluded field, the sun nearly kissing the
evening horizon. The warm breeze was full of that earthy,
musky scent that only those fortunate enough to live outside
the urban rat race know, and a quiet whispering of leaves in the
weeping willow overhead added the final touch to the most
romantic scene.

We lay there, both naked. I knew I had to have her, and have
her now.

Without a word being spoken, I moved to a position of
dominance. I could feel instantly that this was what she was
waiting for as she frantically thrust her pelvis at my approaching
organ. I moved slowly at first, inch by inch, until I was fully
inside her. Then as the tension rose, we threw caution to the
wind and abandoned ourselves to the moment.

Although inexperienced, she approached every change of
position with enthusiasm, moaning with despair every time I
withdrew to prevent myself ending it all too soon. As the sexual
tension heightened towards the inevitable mind blowing climax,
it was all I could do to hold out any longer. Finally, the moment
we had been building up to was upon us, and passed all too
quickly. Breathlessly we rolled together in the now damp
grass.

As the last deep orange glow of the long setting sun melted
into the darkness of approaching night, we lay there still
entwined in an amorous embrace. I kissed her long and lovingly,
and whispered assuringly how good she had been. She tenderly
and sensuously licked my inner ear then whispered, 'Baaa'
and rejoined the flock.

That's very very funny is it? My oh my, you're easily amused!

Shall we start the 'queer' jokes? Even things up a bit?

Better still, take a wander down to Withdean and have a look at

Anyone heard from Peter Taylor recently???

Peter Taylor was last seen in Cardiff last week.

Apparently he was about to sign an £8m contract when he took
one look at your players and realised he'd actually have to
mould a team of his own in order to win anything, so he turned
the job down.

Wait until the likes of Wolves, Derby, Leicester, Palace, etc, set
eyes on the Withdean 'Stadium' next season. They'll laugh their
boll@cks off!

Mind you, I suppose you'll play teams such as those at midnight
on Sundays, or 2pm on a Thursday afternoon, or some equally
ridiculous time designed to keep visiting fans away.
After all, you've got to keep the local residents happy, eh lads?

It's a fair question though. Now you have moved up a division,
how many games will the local authorities actually allow you to
play on Saturdays? Four? Five? Six?

And how many years will it be exactly until you've actually got
a football ground to call your own? Three? Four? Five? Six?

How long will you be able to sustain First Division football at
the Withdean with crowds of just 6,800 and no TV revenue?
A year? Two years? Three years?

Keep laughing lads. He who laughs last.....

Main games of interest are palarse, leicester, millwall, derby
which all could be difficult games.

space at the pìsser in the portakabin that passes as a bog in
the away end at pretty little Cheltenham.

H#A#P#P#Y (62.6.250.107)
Thursday, May 09, 2002 - 12:14 pm

-----------------------------------------------------------
Now let me see. We currently have the following:

1) A football ground that holds 21,000.

2) Enough fans to fill it (fickle though many of them are).

3) Very good prospects of new ground that will hold 30,000
(to start with).

4) A rich chairman who is prepared to spend shedloads of
money in order to make the club a success and himself a
bucket-load of cash into the bargain.

5) No need to sell our best players to make ends meet.

6) An experienced manager with a proven track record who
knows his way around the lower leagues and has plenty of
valuable contacts in the higher divisions.

This season we missed out on promotion by just one point,
despite the fact that we had an idiot in charge of the team for
most of the campaign. It would've been remarkable if we'd
have managed to get promoted with the handicap that was
Alan Cork, but amazingly we still came very close.

During the summer there are likely to be plenty of changes at
Ninian Park as the new manager (who has a record of just one
defeat in fifteen matches since he took over) sorts out the
mess that the previous job-holder left behind.

Several of Cork's hopeless big-money signings will be released
on free transfers just to ease the wage bill. It has been
suggested that as many as 12 players could be leaving the
club soon.

The signings that Lawrence has made since he took over are
Campbell (£900,000, former England Under-21 international,
has already scored plaenty o goals for us), Croft
(left-back on loan from Premiership Ipswich Town) and Bywater
(England Under-21 interantional goalkeeper who is being linked
with a permanent move this week).

Plenty of grounds for optimism there I would suggest. It doesn't
look like Lawrence will do a Cork and spend silly money on
rubbish players. Now, I'm not going to say that we'll
run away with the Second Division next season, but our
prospects for promotion are clear for all to see. Don't be
surprised if we're the bookies' favourites come August.

So, what about the mighty Albion then. What about the team
whose fans keep flooding our message boards with claims
that they are a bigger club than us. What have they got?

1) First Division football, although that won't make any
difference to the finances because they already fill their rented
6,800 capacity ground anyway.

2) A brilliant young striker who has just been included in the
England Under-21 squad. Almost certain to be sold soon in
order to balance the books.

3) Faint hopes of a new ground to built sometime in the distant
future, although the local council don't look too keen on the
idea at all.

4) Very little money available to strengthen their small and
unimpressive squad.

5) No manager. Yet again.

How long can they hope to sustain First Division football with
that little lot? Can Brighton & Hove Albion possibly maintain
progress with no ground, no money and no manager? We'll see.

If Brighton as a club has such a bright future, how come three
managers and a first team coach have walked away at the
earliest opportunity during the last few years?

Bet you can't wait for the new season. Should be great fun
visiting the likes of Wolves, Derby, Leicester, Palace, etc,
week after week. And getting beat week after week.

Maybe you'd better get the thermals ready. Could be a long,
cold winter.........

You have to laugh. Why do Cardiff fans assume we'll lose every

of the best managers in the game to our club in recent times

The bottom line is that the worst that can happen is that by the

How many Brighton strikers have scored a winning goal on
their international debut against Germany?

GET IN THERE!

Wales 1 Germany 0 (Robert Earnshaw (Cardiff City), 46 mins).

Fair dos, Earnshaw. We'd be equally proud if that was one of
our players even though Germany were a shadow of the side
that they have been recently.

No doubt your message board is littered with "Earnshaw is
better than Zamora" type guff after this performance despite
two seasons of evidence to the contrary.

Not wanting to take anything away from Earnshaw's
achievement, but were the Germans really trying last night?
If I was in a World Cup squad there's no way I'd be risking my
summer on a friendly in Wales.

As for all the other guff about how we are going to stay in first
division, think about this:

The first division is very poor. Apart from the top five or six
clubs, most of the sides will be not a lot better than some of
the better sides in Div 2. Look at Millwall's success and
Rotherham's easy survival. Christ, even Wallsall stayed up.
The fact of the matter is that many of the clubs in that division
are crippled by debts. Look at Forest, less than a quarter
of a century ago they were European Champions. I would even
go as far as to say that if you played a representative match
and between 2001/2002 div 1 and 2 teams, if you excluded
the Man City players, i reckon Div 2 would win. Handsomely.
This, all you Blueturds, is why we are going to survive.
Unfortunately for Cardiff, with all their posturing and
mouthing off and getting other teams backs up, making away
matches tough for their team, the best they can hope for is the
playoffs, will there be a lap of honour this time? I don't think so!

A Taffy, But Not THE Taffy (62.6.250.107)
Wednesday, May 15, 2002 - 03:10 pm

-----------------------------------------------------------
Rob, the Germans had three booked, Wales two, it was an
'enthusiastic' contest to say the least, and the Germans
certainly didn't like it up 'em. Make no mistake, they were doing
their level best to win and they did hit the woodwork twice.
Wales were just excellent on the night, Savage, Speed and
Earnshaw in particular (Giggs was quiet and was actually rated
as the least effective Welsh player in our local papers today).

As for the posturing and mouthing off by City fans, maybe
you're not aware but the cardiff boards are regularly full of
Albion fans posturing and mouthing off. When we got beat by
Stoke there were more Brighton fans on our sites than Stoke.
And there are anti-Cardiff threads started on here almost
every day.

It goes both ways. I think too many of your fans got fooled by
whoever this Taffy @rse was when he was posting on here.
I'm amazed anyone believed he was a Cardiff fan when he
was so obviously a wind-up merchant.

That said, you have got a sh!t ground! And no manager!
And Zamora will be off soon! And you'll go down next season!
And, oh, you know rest already!

I'm not so sure about your theories.

We have made cyber friends(?) with a few of your supporters,
Quint being the bloke that springs to mind. Fair point, I admit
to havng a look at your message board and having a
laugh after the Stoke game.

That said, Taffy is certainly not the only one, there are plenty
of yours, as I am sure there are plenty of ours, who go around giving it the big 'I am'.

As far as your international success last night is concerned,
Well Done. You beat a reasonable German side. Congratulations.
See you in Japan and Ko....ooops sorry. Maybe not.

As for your points about us.
1) Yup, our ground is terrible, mind you, I'd rather have a
bad ground that we win at all the time than a super stadium
and keep losing there. I sometimes think that our home
record is a worthy trade off for the dump we have to put up
with. Remember, we would rather be at Falmer, away fans
always think it hurts us when they slate Withers,
NEWSFLASH: It's awful, but it's better than Gillingham.
2) Nah, we've got at least another season of Bobby inflicting
marvellous goals, intelligent runs, power headers, sublime
skill and about 25 goals a season on us!
3) As far as relegation is concerned, there are plenty of worse
sides in that division than us, we may not go up again, but
we will stay up, mark my words.

Latest reports state that the entire england squad have come
down with an illness, which has meant they are unable to
travel to Japan....

....this mysterious illness has, as yet, not been identified,
however, it has affected nearly every English player with the
exception of 22 and a young lad named Bobby Zamora....

....it is still unclear how the players became ill, but there have
been reports of masked men wearing blue and white shirts,
who have been selling off SEAGULL meat to the restaurants
where all english players have recently eaten...

....it is believed that this meat could have been the cause of
the outbreak....

....Bobby Zamora who recently made his debut with the
under 21 side, who have had to pull out of the tournament
in Switzerland, is said to be over the moon with the decision
to call him up to the squad and is expected to play a major
role in the English World Cup Squad....

....Fortunately all english players effected by this outbreak are
expected to recover by August....

....Unfortunately a similar outbreak has meant that all Welsh
players will no longer be able to play and indeed Cardiff City
Players and all those associated with Cardiff are expected to
lose all footballing capabilties (no change there then)....

NEWS JUST IN....a batch of seagull meat on its way to
Crystal Palace has recently been intercepted by the police.....

you'd all be talking about the plans for your new ground. I
know it's 3 years away minimum, and it may still turn out to be

about it.

Either that, or I thought you'd be talking about your new

No ground, no manager. Same old story.

All in the past, DC, all in the past my son.

It's the future that's important. And you aint got one.

Why is it that your last three managers walked away as soon
as they could? Why did you have players putting in transfer
requests (that have yet to be withdrawn) when you were at
the top of the league? How come a club that has won two
championships on the trot can't attract a new manager or
any new players? How long are you likely to be able to
sustain First Division football on crowds of less than 7,000
at a rented athletics stadium? How long is it going to take
for the Falmer project to finally get off the ground? Will it
ever???

Right, I've stayed off this thread for long enough, so here goes.

Cardiff won the FA cup thanks to an incredible blunder by the
Arsenal goalkeepr at a time when my nan was still in nappies.

At the end of the day, we can only base our opinions on facts.
It is a fact that Brighton and Hove Albion have finished higher
than Cardiff City for the past two seasons.

It is a fact that even if the Albion lose every game next season
and Cardiff win all theirs, we will finish above you. It is a fact
that we haven't lost to you for the past two years.

The trouble with Cardiff is that they always go on about the
future. Well listen up, the future never comes. We will be
playing division one football come August. You will be
plaing in division two.

End of story, no argument necessary.

Obviously Cardiff is still a name that makes the Bernabeu

as the Arsenal game - 1927? Probably around 1961 - that
recent.

Here's a thought : everytime those mighty bluebirds check
the results next season here's a reminder - Brighton are the
table above. Every week. Back to back.

Pat: No, CCFC don't actually own Ninian Park, the local
council do. But the club has a low-rent lease agreement
with the council that stretches for the next 80 years or so,
so we have no worries on that front. We will not be moving
across the road to the Cardiff Athletics Stadium in my lifetime,
let's put it that way.

BHA = Div One: 1971 as it happens. 1-0 at Ninian Park.
Crowd of over 50,000 there to see it. Imagine that! Must
be difficult when you play at a ground that has just 6,800
seats, most of which are temporary, but try to imagine it
all the same. I wonder if anyone in Madrid has ever heard of
Brighton & Hove Albion?

Here's a thought: Brighton are a club with no future. You
have no manager, a board with no money to spend, no
ground, a council that won't give you permission to build a
new one (or at least not for years anyway), a small squad
with very few quality players, and no hope of attracting any
new quality players because your club doesn't have the money
for either transfer fees or wages.

And you're laughing at US?

Brighton & Hove City Council have already decided that they

So Danny Wilson, manager of Bristol City (that's the Bristol
City who didn't even make the 2nd division play-offs last

to sell a number of their better players to survive), couldn't
even be bothered to speak to Brighton about the VACANT

sad, never mind!!!

Looks like the word is well and truly out on the football
grapevine that B&HA are a club with no potential for the
future (ie: no money, no ground, board of directors who are
out of their depth, etc etc).

It seems that good old Uncle Dick will now have to put his

This is a great thread! It must be one of the longest in the
history of this site? I hope you can keep it going all through
next season!

Of course, you took the opportunity to laugh at our expense
when our play-offs bid failed, but since then things have all
gone a little bit pear-shaped for you, haven't they?

Manager walks out, no new manager comes in (and none seem
interested in the job by all accounts), no real progress on the
new ground scheme, no new players arrive, a couple of last
year's squad move on to pastures greener, a couple more
are rumoured to be about to do so. You could be in for a
fascinating season. I'll make no predictions about us, but
I tell you what - you're going DOWN! That must be a

Its quite easy to get these Championships mixed up, trying to
match the right trophy with the right year. For those of you in
Wales trophies are those silvery cups that get paraded round
Brighton and Hove every year. Explaining this to also rans is....

So if Taylor is holding the TROPHY it must be the Division 2
one. Shouldn't forget to mention that, as well as the LDV,
the FA Cup starts in November for some COUNTRIES, ie Wales.

So, a reminder. If Taylor is holding the trophy it must be

The moral of the story (again) is that some of us are

a game in November.

Good to see a few pics of Peter Taylor with the championship
trophy. He was gone the next day, wasn't he? Memories, eh?

Perhaps you could post up a few pics of Micky Adams with the
previous year's trophy too. They would be about as relevant!

Imagine that - a manager guides a club to a championship
success and then walks out. And that's happened to you
twice in two seasons! Be honest, the Albion must be rotten
to the core behind the scenes. What did they know that you
lot dont I wonder? Or was it just the no ground / no training
facilities / no money / no potential / no hope thing? I dunno,
these managers, huh? So demanding!

Our manager, Mr Lennie 'Brighton Boy' Lawrence, signed a
midfielder from Bradford City for us on Monday, and today
he's agreed a fee of £500,000 for a left back from Barnsley.
Unfortunately, his bid for Rangers' Tony Vidmar fell through,
but you cant win 'em all! I'm just glad to see he's been busy.

What's your manager been up to recently then? Who is he in
negotiations with? After all, you're sure to need a fair few new
players to be able to compete in the First Division, what with
the better standard of football and a couple of last year's
squad already having left and all that.

Oh, sorry! I forgot!

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!

And what exactly is "completuing"?

We are certainly going to enjoy taking 3000 away every

As for this Barnsley reject and the supposed 500k fee far
be from me to mention why a Division TWO club (checked

amount on a player from a fellow Division TWO club. Top
deal there - spending half a mil' on a player from a

Cardiff - where spending £9m (plus 500k for a Barnsley

Brighton can also be backed at around 15/8 to be relegated.

Chippy Carpenter's contract whilst in the First Division is
expecting to be relegated. Fact. He was barely up to

Oh my god, how on earth did he getto become a regular

This is the most boring and repetitive thing ever. BHA are
in division one. They won division two last year. Cardiff are
in division two. They finished third (was it? I dunno, lets face
it, I had no interest in anything lower than top spot) and
screwed up in the playoffs against a Stoke side that
were enduring a fans revolt against their manager
becasue they thought he was producing a poor team.

I would request that for all the time that Brighton are
champions of the second division CHAMPIONS, all clubs still
residing in that division refer to them not as BHA or Gayboys
or anything other than their true title: THE CHAMPIONS.

I hereby refuse to recognise any thread which second division
fans contribute to when they refer to the team that topped

Thorpe and Kavanagh didn't fit into Stoke's team so you

IG: Carpenter did fit into our team - we didn't want him

took over at a time when there was great uncertainty as
to what was going to happen at the club. I personally rated
him at Third Division level, and I was surprised by how well
he did for you at Second Division level. I'll be absolutely
amazed if he can do a similar job at First Division level.
He's a reasonable player, but he's not that good. He'll be
found out in the First.

Oatway, on the other hand, is rubbish. Plain and simple.
Whoever gave him another two-year contract must've
either been having a laugh or been desperate. Either way
it doesn't bode well for your chances this season.

Don't know who Thorpe is - I presume you mean Peter
Thorne. He'll score plenty this coming season, provided he
stays clear of injuries, so no worries on that score. Our
manager made very few cock-ups last season. He did a
great job. It was the bald tosspot who he took over from
that made all the mistakes. So no worries on that score either!

Having seen loads of Stoke games when Kav and Thorne
were playing for them I can say this:

Kav is an overrated big head who is just after big pay
cheques and would no way 'die for the cause'.

Yet again you will be lucky to get more than 20 games a
season from Thorney. And to my knowledge, no player has
ever scored from the treatment table.

Look at it this way. Last season, Brighton and Cardiff were
in the same division. Brighton won that division, Cardiff didn't.
Brighton got promoted, Cardiff didn't. Whatever way you
look at it, that makes Brighton a bigger club than Cardiff at
this moment in time.

Whatever happens this season, BHA will finish higher in the
league structure than Cardiff. Brighton have effectively won
themselves a crack at the Premiership (however unlikely we
are to get there), Cardiff must huff and puff their way
through division two.

Let's face it, no matter how much money you chuch at
something, things will not be amazingly different. Last
year;s overpriced, over paid prima donnas will be replaced
ny this years at Ninian. Just look at Leeds.

Manager or no manager, Carpenter or no Carpenter, we
are in a higher division. End of argument.

BTW William Hill, Laughing Bluebird, what odds are there

Martin who? That would be Martin Hinshelwood, the first
team coach from last season. That would be the first team
coach of the first team who won division two last year.

All too often in football you see change for the sake of
change. Why change the winning formula that we clearly
already have. Not us. No need to sack the manager each
season, no need to overhaul the playing staff each July.
If it ain't broke, don't tamper.

At this point I would like to add that I am allowed to refer
to the Albion as Brighton. Only lower league fans (particularly
ones in the same division as us last year) need refer to us
as THE CHAMPIONS, as always, your cooperations is greatly
appreciated.

We could speculate til we're blue in the face, but at the end
of it all, the laughter I hear is from a fan of a club who could
by the end of the season finish a whole 48 places lower than
us. Unlikely, but not impossible. What are the odds on Cardiff
finishing in a higher position in the leauge structure that
Brighton this season? I would imagine the odds on that
would allow you to purchase the whole Real Madrid team for
your £1 stake.

The conundrum is this. Will Brighton stay up this season?
I don't know the answer, and for all their posturing, nor does
anyone else. But for the record, I am going to enjoy going
to the City Ground and Hillsborough. Hope you are looking
forward to the trip to Field Mill with the same vigour. Try
not to screw up promotion this year boys and then we can

Almost all valid points I confess.

However, your 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' theory doesn't
really ring true, does it? After all, if your chairman really
thought that Hinshelwood was up to the job, why didn't
he appoint him months ago? Why has DK spent the summer
trying to bring in other people instead?

Hinshelwood's appointment smacks of desperation to me.
I can't find a price on THE CHAMPIONS being relegated at

after last night's announcement.

He says he interviewed other candidates, but for various
reason they weren't offered the job. Agreed these reasons
may be limited bidget and poor facilities and the like, but
at the end of the day, I believe that DK has made a decision
that he thinks is best for the club. I would imagine that
money could have been raised from somewhere, but even
with a big name manager and whoever he may bring in,
let's be realistic, things could go wrogn anf then we would
be left with a big wage billa nd players who didn't really
want to be there, as well as having to sack an expensive
manager.

Not particularly ambitious, granted, but then again, as you
lot delight in reminding us, we play at a converted athletics
stadium. Until we sort out our stadium, this is pretty much
the best we can hope for. Every match is like a cup final for
us next season, and we have players such as Chippy and
Charlie who will battle for the cause. They may be found
out skillwise, but they have earnt their chance and their
commitment will more than make up for what they may
or may not lack technically.

It would be grossly unfair to judge anyone before the

Has your youth team coach made any signings yet? Surely
a manager as well known and well respected throughout the
game as Martin Hinshelwood will have no trouble at all
attracting quality players to your club given B&HA's (aka
The Champions) fine stadium, excellent facilities and healthy
finances......

No signings so far then?

Champions of Div 3 and Div 2 still = B&HA Div ONE

Cardiff + £9m + "MASSIVE" potential still = Div 2

Plus STILL ain't had an answer to what Cardiff's allocation
away at Cheltenham is going to be. Any offers? BHA's first
away allocation - 4,000; fans taking this up? 4000.

btw, any more crap div 2 frees on their way to Ninny Park?

Gary Croft (LB) has just joined us on a free from Ipswich,
while Martin Margetson (GK) is on trial with a view to a free
from Huddersfield. Lots of transfer activity here. How about
your lot? Still no news?

Don't know what our allocation at Cheltenham will be. Small
I should think, as they have a small ground, but then you'd
expect that as they were a non-league side not so very long
ago. I expect their ground is no bigger than, say, the
Withdean Stadium.

Good to hear that you are taking plenty of fans up north
to swell Burnley's coffers. I bet they'll be very grateful for
your cash given the rising cost of football these days.
Pity really that you can only get 6,800 into your joke of a
ground. Not much money to be made there.

Still, as soon as you start getting stuffed week in, week
out, you're not likely to fill it anyway, so I suppose the
small capacity won't really matter too much in the long
run. After all, you couldn't fill it for a couple of FA Cup
ties last year when you were on your way to a second
successive championship. Sad really.

Just think, we'll be getting crowds twice the size of yours
on a regular basis despite the fact that we'll be playing in
a lower division. We'll have bigger crowds for the visits of
the likes of Cheltenham, Mansfield and Colchester, than
you'll get for the visits of Wolves, Derby and Coventry.
It's a funny old game!

ok forget the small ground sh1t who had the best away
following last season?
see we only get 6800 cos thats full.
why do we take more fans away than you lot?
cos we are a bigger club end of story
not so long ago you had an average of 3000 odd
and we had the same playing in kent about 75 miles away.
i think i have made my point

Bigger club end of story?

You haven't even got your own ground! I would concede
that the circumstances that led to this situation were
unfortunate to say the least, but nevertheless the fact remains.

Twice last season you couldn't fill the athletics stadium.
How come? Big clubs get big crowds don't they?

Anyway, enough of this 'my club is bigger than yours'
nonsense. It's stupid, and, as things stand (with you having
no ground) it's an impossible point to argue, as I don't
believe a club's 'size' can be gauged by anything other
than it's attendances, and you are clearly at a disadvantage
on that front through no fault of your own.

However, I will say this - this thread is supposed to be all
about Brighton (aka The Champions) laughing at Cardiff
because The Bluebirds failed to get promoted last season
when B&HA succeeded. That failure seems to have given
you lot a great deal of pleasure, which I can only assume
is derived from the fact that we are currently the 'haves'
(stadium, crowds, players, money, etc), while you are
the 'have nots'. Fair enough. Every dog has his day, and
you've had two on the trot. Well played.

Nevertheless, your long-term future still looks bleak with
the Falmer thing dragging on and on, with a chairman who
has no financial firepower, with a youth team coach as a
manager and with players like Carpenter and Oatway
getting new contracts.

Therefore, I have no doubt whatsoever that we will have
the last laugh. I think I'll stick around for a while to
deliver it.

include these items in their 'Have Not' list.

he obviously couldn't find a use for it.

ok fair play about the home games but did you answer
my question about away games?
we had the best away following last season and the season
before. what do you have to say to that?
and as we both get the same amount of tickets for away
games why did we take more?
bigger club
better fans ( sorry to the decent cardiff fans)
players that play with pride. ( not just for money)
div one footy next season
the list goes on and on.
oh and one of the best strikers outside the prem.
anyway back to the reason this thread was started how was
the LAP OF HONOUR OR WAS YOU ONE OF THE FANS
WHO FVCKED OFF BEFORE THE END?

The lap of honour was great. Sadly, it came a couple of
days too late and all we had to celebrate was winning
£100,000 and a funny looking wooden bowling ball for
beating Swansea City in the FAW Premier Cup Final. Oh well......

Away followings: again, there are so many factors to take
into consideration when looking at a club's away following.
For instance, distances to travel, dates and times of matches,
ticket allocations / restrictions, current form of team, etc.

Last season was an odd one for most travelling City fans.
We had three or four games on Sundays with 12pm kick offs,
a couple switched to midweeks from Saturdays, one Thursday
night game (can't remember against who....), a couple of
Friday night games, and various allocation restrictions due
to the behaviour of our lunatic fringe.

On average I usually attend around 10 to 15 away games
each season and have done so for about 20 years. Last
season I only went to 5. Often I just couldn't be bothered
due to the hassle getting tickets and the presence of Mr
Cork on the bench. Remember, we were mid-table for most
of the season.

Your lot, on the other hand, were always up at the top of
the table. Couple that with the other factors (including the
fact that many of your fans can't get tickets for home games)
and it follows that you should have had a bigger away
following.

I wonder what will happen this season if you start getting
stuffed every weekend? Will your 'better fans' still turn up
in droves then? We'll see......

You had two fine managers during the season who were
able to use to the limited player-power at their disposal
to get great results. Two highly-skilled tacticians who
knew how to get the best out of their players.

We had Alan Cork, a nice guy who simply wasn't strong
enough to be a number one, and didn't possess the tactical
know-how to get results from a squad which cost millions.
He also had no idea how to motivate his men.

Lenny Lawrence is a very different type of manager, as our
amazing string of results at the end of last season proved.
With him in charge we've got a real chance this year.

Which is where I fear for you. You've lost two of the best
young coaches in the game in the space of a few months,
no doubt due to the financial restrictions The Champions
have to live with. And you were seemingly unable to attract
a new manager with any decent credentials for the job, so
DK had to turn to his youth team coach instead.

There may be trouble ahead???
