Bong needs a couple of points docked for being missing upfield and leaving Gross to cope with Salah for the penalty
Yep noticed this too. "Is that Bong?" said my old man as he was jogging back along the touchline. 10 seconds later the bindippers had a pen.

Always likely to happen though against a team with such rapid turnover of play.

All 7, except Stephens 6 and Gross 5. Seriously what was Gross playing at, that’s an actual penalty area. Up there as awful misjudgments with Bruno against Everton last year https://twitter.com/musukjung/status...979936768?s=21

People who love their club but are realistic about their club's prospects in dire circumstances. That appealed to me. That is what I call true loyalty. Supporting the club as you have done through the hard times. I am prepared to be here through these hard times and to develop a squad as I have started to do in preparation for the day that we all move to a new stadium at Falmer. I need your support, patience and understanding in the long-term because there is no quick fix. I hope you will continue to give me that opportunity." Mark McGhee, 17th April 2006

Thought Locadia looked clumsy...Bong had a good game IMO. Button ok but some of his kicks were poor.
Game of opinions thought Locadia was our best threat and Bong defended superbly

But we need to get full backs forward if we are not to be the caricatured Hughton team of Norwich fans’ imagination. Midfielders have to fill in and Gross did it badly

But they need to get back quicker rather than just ambling along

Bong was remarkably slow getting back but Gross should know that Divin' Mo would fall over if given a chance. He got one, he took it and he got the penalty which settled the game.

Button 5 Kicking was a joke, otherwise nothing to do. Reasonable deputy and seems to inspire confidence in the defenders which is important.
Montoya 6 Solid and combative, I like him a lot but he's not currently offering as much in the final third as we need.
Duffy 7 Looks leaner and meaner, strong and composed. A couple of misplaced passes and interceptions but good overall.
Dunk 7 Very similar, but pinged some lovely passes from left to right. The man is a class act.
Bong 6 Not sure why he took so long getting back which resulted in the penalty, otherwise a good and solid game with the usual lack of quality on the ball.
March 5 Offered nothing at all at either end, really. Work rate without question, quality is very dubious.
Gross 5 Square peg in a round hold until we changed to 4-4-1-1. Offers nothing in a 4-3-3 and is robbing Kayal of a deserved place.
Stephens 6 Some misplaced passes, sure. But defensive screening and usual range of attempted passes. Better than people realise.
Propper 6 As usual the man is quality and he gets through a lot of work but the opportunities to shine weren't there today.
Locadia 6 Comes alive in the final third without too much interest other than that. Happy to see him getting involved.
Murray 6 Puts himself about but doesn't suit 4-3-3 and he's another square peg keeping out a better alternative without justification.

      Subs
Andone 6 Buzzed about and must be a little bit frustrated with being in and out of the team.
Knockaert 7 Showed more class on the ball than March did and is a better player, just less defensively reliable.
Kayal 7 Did what we need of the central midfielders, closing down space, getting in people's faces. He should start in a 4-3-3.

If 6 is average a lot of you are being stingy. We've just played a team who are better than last year, we're runners up and champions league finalists. .

Button 8 . . . Couldn't have done much more other than save the penalty and score a winner.
Montoya 6 6 of one half a dozen of the other
      Duffy 8
      Dunk 8
Bong 8 best game for some time
Locadia 8, brightest light over the halfway line
      Stephens 7 solid
      Propper 7
      March 5
Gross 6, worked hard, but faded, had little option with penalty, Salah was clean through and no other defenders to be seen.
Murray 5, totally ineffective at this level/pace

Andone 7 we were down and defending when he came on, made a few spirited attempts from barely half chances.
Knockaert 6 , tried too hard
      Kayal n/a

Interesting thoughts but for me Murray was a bit more at it today than Andone

Watching a full 90 minute re-run in Sky Sports now........might put down some marks after that....

      Button 7
      Montoya 6
      Duffy 7
      Dunk 8
      Bong 6
      Stephens 6
      Propper 6
      March 6
      Locadia 7
      Gross 6
      Murray 5

Great defensively but pretty ineffective going forward. Defending as deep as we did leaves the front player isolated. Liverpool are a decent enough team though so it was always going to be a tricky game.
