If I could be bothered, I'd go and search posts on NSC from back in the day, and I'll bet plenty of them are identical to what's going on in Luton right now. "Why would he want to go there when he could stay with us?" etc.

Football is so short term, I can't blame Jones for taking up the offer of Stoke right now. It's not like he'd actually have to live in the city, any more than he lives in the centre of Luton. He's probably quadrupled his salary overnight, and will have the best of facilities laid on for him straight away, and the chance to really increase his profile if he can get it right. Luton's new stadium is still very much a pipe dream: they've not even got permission, let alone laid the first brick. I wish him luck. I feel for Luton fans, but sadly, until they can replace shitty old Kenilworth Road, they're always going to lose out to clubs in a better position, as we learned for many years.

Great post! Most managers are 7-10 games away from the sack and if things start going wrong at Luton they will get rid! This is a fantastic opportunity for NJ and if he gets it right and gets Stoke performing he could be a Prem manager in the future! This is a move up the ladder to a very well run club! Good luck Nathan.
Those that think he shouldn’t of taken this job really don’t understand the volatility of football management!

I disagree on this. He's got lots of credit in the bank at Luton and if he goes on a bad run, he'll easily survive. On the other hand, if he goes on a bad run at Stoke, he's toast: the board have already shown that they're a bit trigger-happy so he's got little leeway.

Stoke fans are moaning that they don't score goals. But look at their strikers: Crouch is 102 years old, Berahino only scores in a leap year, Bojan is perennially missing and Diouf is not exactly prolific. Afobe's not bad at this level but even he only scores one in four games - he's not a 20-a-goal a season striker. And who's going to create? The ageing Adam and the over-rated Ince? Again, they have Allen who's very decent, but what if he's injured?

Stoke have got money but they need to invest heavily in some strike force. Jones needs to be backed and he needs to have players who can hit the ground running. It could be a great move for him but it's by no means a sure thing.

Seriously, agree completely. A little self-belief for Nathan and why would he not think he can make the necessary difference at Stoke for them to come back up?
