Sorry I dont quite understand; it is a Toshiba Satelitte C50 B153 running on Windows 10 Home and the internet is provided by Vodafone You say do not go to Toshiba or Microsoft so are you saying go to Vodafone to download the drivers. Microsoft downloaded a Drivers Pack but said a driver was missing which was not theirs.

You need to download the drivers for the USB network adaptor from the manufacturer's website

OK my 2p worth. You said "inserted a 802.11nUSB Wireless Lan Card" Inserted meaning ? Plugging it in to an external USB port on the laptop? or actually opening up the case and inserting it (unlikely)?
Step 1. Remove the new wireless Lan card. Step 2. Reboot laptop. Step 3. Uninstall anything that mentions wi-fi for the original wi-fi device or somehow disable the original in built wi-fi device (there may well be a button on the keyboard that does this).
Step 4. Re-connect the new wireless Lan card. Do you get a message suggesting windows is downloading a driver? or, is it just working?. It sounds as if the new card was supplied when the laptop was a windows 7 machine and it is now a windows 10 machine and may well need a new driver. The best bet would be download and install the driver for windows 10 from the manufacturer of the wireless Lan card.

Now you are talking and I am interested and listening see post 40 it is working on the USB which is plugged into the usb socket on the outside of the pc. So you are saying as I understand it, google 802. ETC and down load that Wireless Lan Card for Windows 10 to either the USB or internally which ever it will do. The USB may have been set up when the pc was running on Windows 8 prior to the Windows 10 free upgrade, I am not certain of the exact dates of each but it is possible that it was set up at the original time of the upgrade by Microsoft.

BG - I think you have got it now from post 44. Find the make of the new wi-fi network device. Find their website and download the windows 10 driver for the device. Install that driver on the computer. Don't google 802xx as that will just tell you all about wi-fi standards. Once you have installed the driver you may have to unplug and re-insert the new wi-fi network device. HOWEVER I am concerned about post 40. Someone earlier asked if the new wi-fi network device gets hot. You said it works for 30 (somethings) and then stops until you unplug it and plug it back in. Does your granddaughter mention if it is hot when she does this. I am leaning more toward the device (new wi-fi network device) being faulty rather than a driver issue.

Thanks for that after reading about this I saw an advert for Driver Easy to keep you updated with all the drivers needed so had a look but I couldnt find out how to download the Free trial version so didnt continue. Grandaughter will be here to play her games soon so I will monitor the USB to see if it gets hot. The only network adaptor not showing on the Toshiba but is showing on my HP is Qualcomm Atheros AR956c Wireless Network Adaptor Would that be the one I need to download?

Most of those programs that promise to keep your drivers up to date are nothing but bloat/malware. Do not download them, you don't need them.

Thanks for that I did get the impression that very little comes for free. I have just googled the network adaptors needed for my laptop and it includes the Qualcomm one mentioned earlier, which is missing so will; download and update that from the Toshiba site.

Just take it back to the repair shop. Don't worry, I'm sure they've all seen cowgirl porn before.

Like others have said, you need the drivers for the adaptor which usually come on a CD in the box.

Unfortunately they are not plug and play.

I take it you don't have the box the adaptor came in and that the repair shop does?

If so go back to them and ask for the drivers as they should have the drivers anyway.

The problem is if you are trying to download the drivers for the usb wireless adapter then Toshiba won't be able to help you as it's not their product. If you are trying to download drivers for the internal wireless card then the Toshiba website would the best starting point.

http://www.toshiba.co.uk/support/drivers/laptops/

If there is an issue with the card and it's no longer functioning then the install of the drivers is likely to fail as it won't be able to find compatible hardware during the installation process.

I don't think that's the problem.

I went onto and tried that site but came unstuck with the entry for the update date as I posted an approx date, as I thought, and it came up with nothing found and also I wasnt sure of the keyword to insert. Rather than download anything to the usb I was hoping to do it straight to the pc. I can take the usb back to the Laptop Shop and ask them to update it but dont want Io get the same problem of it cutting out.every so often. The time that it takes for me to do this is not a problem and I would rather that than spend £100.
