[Travel] If you could travel back in time just once for one week where and when would you go to?

West is BEST
A week to spend with my Mum, Dad, and two brothers in the same place. All dead except for one brother in China. Don’t care where we are.

To re-live a trip with mates to Magaluff in the mid-80’s. Perfection in every way.

Or a negative (with a very positive outcome) - to beam back to Germany in the early 30’s with access to the National Socialist Party hierarchy, with semtex and the skill to use it.

I would have said Rome, possibly with a little jaunt down to Pompeii.

But like a lot of others, I would give up any kind of amazing experience to be able to spend another week with my brother, any time before he was diagnosed with ******* cancer.

Goldstone
Go back to a particular week, when we were playing at the Goldstone, and I was earning my Albion stripes in the North Stand, as a yoof.
Then turning round to some other young lad, and saying "one day all this will be yours:
Bill Archer?

Back to just before the 1923 railway grouping to travel around the network with the equivalent of an all line railrover and a somehow perpetually charged and functioning smartphone for photos and journey planning.

Got a spare ticket? Although I think I might actually try the early 50s, steam's Indian Summer.

If you're not allowed financial gain should you be allowed to alter history?
Something I overlooked to stipulate in my opening post. You are not permitted or able to intentionally alter history. Your one week visit would be of such little impact on the course of history that once you had left it would easily readjust to follow its natural course.

Also I should have stipulated against contacting people you already know as this would cause too many problems both on a practical and psychological level. First you'd have to explain the presence of your older self, then there is the possibility of encountering your younger self. Your visit would have too much impact on altering your own personal history as such a visit would certainly impact on your own family history. And then there is the psychological effect of having to say goodbye all over again and re-experience feelings of grief and sudden loss. It would be too emotionally upsetting. So I'm afraid I am forbidding such visits for those reasons. Sorry.

You could however encounter parents etc anonymously. For instance to a time before you were born so they didn't recognise you or know who you are. You would merely be a stranger to them who had briefly passed through their lives for a week with minimal impact.

I also mentioned in my opening post that you would be immune from death or serious injury. This immunity only applies if you don't do anything too rash and reckless and took reasonable precautions. If you choose to go back to Germany 1939 just so you can tell Hitler he's a c**t you'll only have yourself to blame for the personal consequences.

Something is niggling me in my tiny mind, that you maybe taking this a bit tad to seriously.

When we go back are we the age we are now, or can we pick an age ?

You're the age you are now.... however, I may have also overlooked to mention you are relieved of any physical ailments you currently have which might compromise mobility as you may not be able to rely on the benefits of a mobility scooter for transportation. Think Captain Flint in the Star Trek episode "The Menagerie" and you'll get the general idea.

12th December 1988; the week of my 27th Birthday (16th) and the week my Dad died (17th), sadly too many things left unsaid, good and bad so maybe for the better.

I need to have a word with myself, when I read the opening post all I could think was ... ooooh Dinosaurs. Then I read through the thread and now I feel shallow because my dearly departed did not cross my mind.

25 years so I can have a week with my late Father.

and for my bonus week

2018 years back to Bethlehem so I can meet Joseph,Mary and the wee baby Jesus and call him a very naughty boy in front of the three wise men. Bound to get in the Bible then and make it a good comedy read.....
