If you're interested in parliamentary involvement I would suggest writing to your MP. That will guarantee a Government response. If your MP tables a PQ it will also get discussed in the Commons.

37 years for bouncing checks terrible. Done.

Time the construction company CEOs in Qatar were held responsible for worker deaths rather than financial dodgy dealing.

I suggest you go to a group called 38 degrees. They have a large network and specialise in something like this.

Excellent advice - this is why I love NSC

How the feck does anyone get 37 years for something like that? Medieval bar stewards. Shame we no longer have any gunboats to go sort em out.

Signed.

Thanks for all those that have shared and signed the petition.

Also appreciate that exposure on a grander scale is required. That said 600 signatures in 24 hours I consider positive - maintain that for a week and we’re looking over 4,000.

Someone queried why it has taken 3 years to reach the tabloids. As I understand it he was incarcerated for quite some time before the 37 years sentence was dealt. I’m friends with him on FB and have naturally picked up the story from there, our mutual friends and close family of Jonathan’s. Personally speaking, being friends with Jonathan I felt compelled to do something to right what is clearly a wrong. In fact his sentence, for this crime, is frankly abhorrent.

Social media arms such as FB and Twitter are naturally being used to promote the petition. The Daily Mail article in my original post was great for exposure, sadly it was long before the petition was live so there was no tangible benefit in that regard. That said I will be writing to the local and national tabloids over the weekend.

I spoke with Dominic Grieve’s office a few weeks ago - Jonathan’s home constituency MP who were very interested to learn more about Jonathan’s plight. This was then passed on to Jonathan’s mum to pick up what with me not being family. Not entirely sure at this stage whether this has gained any traction.

Detained in Dubai are also lobbying for Jonathan but as already pointed out they are very much a one man band with a limited span of influence.

I suppose no one said it would be easy and this is after all just a petition. However without trying to over dramatise it, for Jonathan (who is aware of it) it represents some hope.

Without lobbying, petitions and continually beating the same drum we’d have never got Falmer. Completely different of course but there are some parallels - if you shout loud enough and for long enough, someone will eventually listen.

Done. Middle East seems to me to be largely Dalek. Apart from Israel.
