I read the book before watching film... gave me all the techie detail the film didn't need... both excellent.

I saw it at home and was underwhelmed. I like Damon in a lot of movies, and Scott is an excellent film maker, but it lacked tension for me.

On a similar note there's a very entertaining commentary track for 'Sunshine' where a pre T.V. fame Brian Cox discusses his role as scientific adviser to the story/ production.
