The politically correct BBC will give Roddy Forsyth loads of air time in the coming months, so he get his customary boner on spend-£10m's Celtic buying their way to 5-0 wins over miniscule clubs.

I tend to change radio/TV stations wnk-fest over Celtic, returning a couple of minutes later, when it's competitive football in the PL and Championship.
I have the transcript of one of last season's reports to hand:

"Oh yes and it is now nine nil to Celtic. Billy MacDuff rounded the St Thistlemuirs left back who had temporarily stopped to find his glass eye. He then nutmegged the centre half..well I mean he passed the ball between the defender's right leg and his walking stick if that counts. Finally he chipped the keeper who at the time was playing his first game at the age of 9. Just to remind you St Thistlemuir only turned up with 10 players and the manager's mum had to play in midfield.

The hoards of Celtic fans are baying for more blood"
I do not have a professional working knowledge of cricket.

Just checked this and it's bang on. Rangers face the might of FC Shupki from Macedonia on Thursday. The day after England play Croatia in the World Cup semi final.

      That really is quite amusing.
Is that Slippery Stevie's first game in charge?

      They beat Argentina 3-0
What's your cherry-picking point? They then 'progressed' via a 90th minute win over Iceland, followed by penalty shoot out wins over Denmark and Russia. Laughable form to grind out a World Cup semi-final slot. Take a look at the other side of the draw. It's brutal by comparison. There's been a couple of classic matches worthy of the final itself. There's another on Tuesday. England's only true test will come on Sunday when they're up against a decent side for - ludicrously! - the first time in the competition.

Not exactly 'ludicrous' though is it you muppet. It happens quite often re. finalists.

I remember in 2002 both Brazil and Germany not playing anyone particularly good until they met each other in the final. Brazil's best test was us.

How you don't think Colombia is a decent side is also mystifying.

      That they're not that bad.

I agree that some teams on the other side are better, but you weren't asking about those, you were just commenting on Russia and Croatia, and I simply said Croatia aren't that bad. And Russia knocked out Spain.

Footballs played on grass not paper. We’ve played lots of decent sides who were there in merit. I know you’re on a wind up but still.....

Before our ties, loads of football writers and pundits thought that Colombia and Sweden were quality, Colombia with several "world class stars" and Sweden with "a brilliant defence" and our bogey team.

Until .... we outplayed and overcame them, in case of Colombia in the face of violence, cheating and provocation.

It's only with hindsight that the jealous, or weirdly bitter English old men, claim they were nothing opponents.

Correct. Colombia are regarded as very good and won both their games when they had 11 men with ease. That was a very tough opponent. Just because they haven’t got the history of Argentina or Spain doesn’t mean they werent as good as the likes of them in this tournament. Croatia another who are very good but some won’t consider it the same as playing Spain etc when it is - they’re all there on merit INCLUDING us.

I've seen us meekly go out of tournaments PLENTY of times to teams of the calibre of Sweden and Colombia. I've also seen us labour and plod to unsatisfactory victories or draws over teams of the calibre of Tunisisa and Panama. Not this time though - we've been brutally effective in those games, we've played well, looked confident and assured, and you can see us building up a real head of steam.

No, we haven't overcome what you'd call a 'superpower' in this tournament yet, but we've been more than decent so far and we at least look equipped to give anyone a game.It won't be easy, but given our performances so far there's no reason to think we can't take care of Croatia. They've had 2 x 120 minutes and looked dead on their feet the other night. They're certainly not 'there for the taking' obviously, as their midfield in particular is mustard. But if we maintain our levels and stay calm, then I believe we'll have too much for them.

Then, if we make it, I don't think there is any kind of gulf between us, France and Belgium. All 3 teams are of a level that any three are capable of beating the other, just depending on who turns up on the day. Unbelievable innit Jeff.
