[News] Beach Huts - Bust Up

Front page of today’s Argus!

It doesn’t seem right that our council are trying to impose a 10% sales tax on our beach huts.
459 beach huts in Hove - that’s some £2,500 per hut! Nearby Seaford charges £25:00 !

Pure greed from our numpty council. Other councils don’t charge anywhere near this. By imposing such high taxes beach huts will only become the preserve of the rich by default

If you can afford a beach hut you can afford the taxes, how do you think local services are funded. If you want change and FREE beach huts then VOTE for LABOUR

There was me thinking this story was about Beach Hut having an argument in one of Shoreham's finest restaurants.

BHCC has just given itself a significant lift in income with a 4.9% increase in council tax, far higher than many other councils. So why now, picking on a soft target (not many votes) of the beach hut owners?

Was talking to the current owners of our hut a few weeks back, they love it

Highway robbery - owning a beach hut does not mean you are wealthy. Slap a 10% tax on selling won’t have an impact on the wealthy! Hastings charge £120 & Arun £500, Seaford only £25. The thieving Labour council here will be taxing at £2,500!
We need a protest along the prom!

If you're fecking mug enough to pay £20,000 for a shed then you deserve every tax ever imposed.

Seems a big jump between £25 and 10%. Couldn't they just charge it like stamp duty? How does it work on things like garages (when sold seperately not within a house).
