I was making the opposite assumption! I always assume that journalists are lazy and the stat is actually "free-kicks given" (which would be far easier to quantify) and they jazz it up to be "dirtiest player".

I sort of agree but then if you look at the players with the most yellow cards and it is pretty much the same list.
