'Top flight needs Villa vibrancy' Stan Collymore.

" The Premier League as a brand needs Aston Villa and other big clubs like Leeds, Nottingham Forest, and Derby.
We are being overloaded with smaller clubs that have sneaked into the Premier League, are cheap to buy, and have low expectations.
They get to the top flight and then roll over and have their bellies tickled by the big sides.
Big clubs come with big expectations even when they are not doing well so I would love to see Villa back.
But, given the way Fulham under Slavisa Jokanovic have been playing this season, I wouldn't be surprised if they took the last remaining ticket to the Premier League".

He doesn't really get it, does he?

Forest, relegated from the PL, 1999
Derby, relegated from the PL, 2008
Dirty Leeds, relegated from the PL, 2004.

All more deserving of a PL place than us, Huddersfield, Bournemouth, Southampton, Palace, and Burnley.
You be glad you be Sussex born!

The thing is that his ultimate point isn't wrong. Aston Villa, Leeds and Forest in particular are clubs which should be playing in the Premier League based on history and relative size of the club. But he's missing the main point - Premier League status is earnt, not gifted. Mentioning Derby is ridiculous, they're not in the same bracket as Villa, Leeds and Forest and would contribute almost nothing at all. I agree with him that small clubs like Palace and Burnley are hardly enhancing the Premier League as a brand but they're not there by accident. They earnt their place, and they've earnt their stay.

Following the final game of our promotion season I now can't stand Villa. Bunch of dickhead fans. Come on Fulham!

bless him, though you have to admire the loyalty to old club.

thought the arguement is utterly flawed. the Premier Leaugue is the brand and doesn't "need" midlands clubs no matter how big they once were. prehaps Man U, Liverpool, Arsenal, who have long standing international recognition.
Daily Mail readers are living in a perpetual hell, expecting their homes to be overrun at any minute by hoodie wearing, skunk smoking, muslim, transgender, asylum seekers.

They stank the place out for years and years, even when they were pushing for top 4/6 for a year or two with Martin O'Neill they were a dreadful side to watch.

I seriously can't remember them being any good since Big Ron was in charge briefly in the early 90's so it doesn't seem like their 'higher expectations' were doing them any good. It's probably even longer since they actually managed to fill their stadium. Down to the low 30k's since O'Neill left.

      Just more condescending rubbish.

I know that is probably a tongue in cheek comment, but both teams finished the season higher than Brighton and Burnley came 7th and qualified for Europe !

The same Aston Villa that last time played in the Premier League won 3 games all season, losing an amazing 27 matches and finished 20th? Including such results as losing 6-0 at home to Liverpool and 4-0 to Chelsea, Man City, Arsenal and Everton?

“Stan the Man” should stick to his specialist subjects, wife beating and Putin noshing. If he means Brighton (we’re a small club btw) don’t deserve to be in the PL and that we must have Villa instead as they’re a “big club” then his opinion is laughable. Football is a meritocracy. End of.

If there were no other reasons to want Fulham to win, the presence of John Terry at Villa would be enough.
