7th wicket stand beats the first 6. Well done, sort of. New ball available after two overs tomorrow.... Will the game last until tea? Or at least lunch.

Get a lead of 150-200 and there’s a chance - 250 or so and it’s game on. Huge ask though.

Dunno what the weather's like up there but it's a bit sticky down in Hove. 150+ could make for a cracking day.

HOWEVER .... With the new ball due after Amir and Abbas have been toiling in the field for about 10 minutes ..... well.

Gonna need 2 names on the honours board to win this ...... and remember how to catch.

Won't happen.

I love test cricket.

Will be lucky to last until lunch due to the very poor batting of the so called top order specialists in both innings. Perhaps we need to try some new young batsmen but until the ECB get hold of the 4 day game nothing will improve.

Well at least we managed to avoid the ignominy of an innings defeat at Lords

The cupboard is bare as nobody plays a long innings now a days but the questions must be asked about Stoneman and Malan as to whether they are good enough for test cricket. Could we try a new opening partnership and drop Cook down to 3 and Root back to 4 to replace Stoneman and Malan. Would this give us a more solid start?

Well, maybe. I'm just a bit traumatised: managed to get the TV to see the death throes of the game and watched Dom Bess bowl 4 or 5 balls: 3 full tosses and one half volley. No-one wants to scapegoat a young lad who actually batted well, but as an international off-spinner this was dire and seemed to sum up the 'bareness of that bloody cupboard'. In 55 years of following English Test cricket I don't think I've ever felt so bleak.
And the odd thing is, that working on various selection principals ( give the youngsters another chance, hope that you can still get a tune out of the older guys, one or two did OK in this game.......but mostly, who else is there?) the same bunch will probably be lining up for us at Headingly. Who knows we might win the toss next time and actually make the right decision? Or Broad might have one of his 'streaks'?
Mustn't get too down: we've been here before........but there's always been other guy to pick. This time??
