I think you need one if you have any commercial operation whatsoever with it - regardless of risk. So if you were taking photos as part of your business, I think you need a license. Just for your personal use, then obviously different.

Having dug a little deeper I see you are right, looks like I might have to consider a CAA course if I go further with this - mind you I’ve not even flown one yet so may be getting ahead of myself. ???

Yes, I have used used a couple, one being Parrot (which wasn't bad) and another Chinese brand that was all over the place.

I tried using a parrot too, but it was a bugger tying the cam to its back, and near enough impossible to control it in flight. DJI > parrot, for sure.
