Dundee Utd have provided many good players to the English game since the 1970's. Robertson to Liverpool via Hull one of the latest examples

"While* the transaction to bring Brighton’s Connor Goldson is at an advanced stage, it isn’t quite complete yet, and the £3.5M rated defender, who Rangers have finally successfully bid for, is set to become Ibrox’s top-paid player with a very impressive £20,000 a week salary." (Press Report tonight).

The gulf is there for all to see, yes he’s a good player and I believe could easily play in the PL , the fact they are making a meal over it speaks volumes. He’s the new messiah

That's one example but, unlike the 70s and 80s, the stream of good Scottish players being established in the top flight has diminished considerably and that is reflected in the state of their national team!

Excellent post.

As PL underdogs, at the moment CH prefers a deeper lying defence. We’re often under pressure and he prefers two experienced warriors at CB.

Is now a good time to mention that ‘Balogun’ (in Nigerian dialect) actually translates as ‘WARRIOR’...?

I’m happy with him going if, and only if, his replacement is already in the bag. We are the big club in this deal. Rangers are not. So we dictate, and they wait, and so does Goldson. We need to start using our Prem status.

I don't doubt thart planty of Scottiish players do still make a career south of the border, but the quality has diminished massively since the 1980's, where are the modern day Dalgleish's, Jordan's, Hansen's, Strachan's et al?

Jonny Evans going to Leicester for 3.5 million a year after West Brom turned down 25 million for him puts it into perspective.

That was a relegation release clause - not a market valuation

Ah, fair enough.

But even with that in mind, it's still an astonishingly bad example of transfer acumen by West Brom.

Apparently there were fans saying they would drive him over to the King Power themselves....

...but he said it was OK, he'd just take a taxi

and Deportivo La Coruna, but that's deemed astute business by the Albion.

Bit like us giving away Ashley Barnes

750k better off than if we’d let him run his contract down, which would have happened at the end of the season, so slightly better business acumen from the Albion? Still pissed off we didn’t try harder to get him to re sign though.
