That's definitely a 3 at the back squad, assuming Walker is being considered as the right of that three - which he has only ever played for England, once. Haven't England tried shoe-horning players into a system before... how did that work out last time forcing Scholes, Lampard and Gerrard into an awkward midfield shape?
I wouldn't have taken Alexander-Arnold, I think it's too much and too soon if we expect him to play a part. Rio Ferdinand made a good point though, he went to 1998 without playing any minutes and it set him up nicely for 2002 when he played every game. A-A going must be for the experience and extreme cover if required but I'm not sure I wouldn't have rather seen Aaron Cresswell instead of him or Ashley Young. I would have taken Nathan Redmond instead of Lingard - I don't see anything Lingard offers which Dele Alli isn't significantly better at.

Hasn't called up Smalling for a while has he? Don't think it's to do with his United performances - more to do with Southgate wanting to use centre backs who are good with the ball at their feet.

Taking Alexander-Arnold makes no sense when Trippier and Walker are already there. As for taking full-backs for the experience, it hasn't exactly helped England that we took Luke Shaw to Brazil 4 years ago.
As a squad it's undoubtably the worst on paper that I can remember us taking to a major tournament.
I don't see much cohesion (especially in defence), there's a lack of creativity in midfield, the goalkeeping inexperience is a worry AND YET our attacking players are in good form - Kane, Sterling, Alli, Vardy all carry a threat.

There will be differences of opinion on pretty much every selection, bar Harry Kane, but seriously, can ANYONE suggest a SINGLE REASON why Danny Wellbeck should be included in that squad?

With 'The Ox' being injured (he can play wing/wing back), Southgate needed a 3rd right full back option. Walker will play as the right side of a back 3, meaning that, with Tripper as the starting RWB, we required one more.

And at international level I've not seen anything Alli is significantly good at either...We are going to struggle. But then we knew that.
Not sure what you've seen in Redmond that would suggest he takes the place of someone who has delivered on the big stages. Not sure what the Lallana love in with some people is either, wouldn't get in my squad, no consistency, thinks he is a lot better than he is.
Can't argue with the squad really, probably is about the best we can take, which in all honesty makes the 1/4 finals a big achievement for them.
